Posted Jul 6/12 - Flames 6, St. Martin 1

The Flames played their most complete ballgame of the season as they routed St. Martin 6-1, under the Friday night lights in St. Martin.

Farming started quickly in the visitor half of the first.  Craig Klein singled, and Chris Wehseler singled to put runners on first and second.  Brad Mergen ripped a double down the left field line, scoring both runners.  A walk to Aaron Nett and an infield single by Brent Mergen loaded the bases, but the Flames were unable to do further damage.

The game stayed 2-0 until the fifth.  Craig Klein hit a double to deep left, and the speedy Chris reached on a swinging bunt single.  Greg Holthaus followed with a single down the left field line, scoring Craig.

Farming scored again in the sixth.  Derrick Roush was hit by a pitch, and Chad Mergen sacrificed him to second.  Craig Roush reached on an error, with Derrick reaching third.  Derrick then scored on a wild pitch.  Farming loaded the bases again with walks to Greg and Brad, but was unble to score.

The Flames added two insurance runs in the seventh.  Derrick was again hit by a pitch, and scored on Chad Mergen's triple down the right field line.  Zach Posterick's single scored Chad with Farming's sixth run of the evening.

The Flames got excellent pitching on this fine, cool evening.  Brad pitched the first five innings, surrending no runs or hits and striking out 13.  Brent pitched two innings, giving up a run on one hit.  The hit was a fly ball that got lost in the lights.  Craig went the final two innings, keeping the Martins off the board on just one hit.  Farming surrendered just two hits and made only one error in this crisply played ballgame.

Next up for the Flames is a non league game with Regal, next Friday at 6:30pm, in Farming.  The final league game of the season is two days later, when Farming hosts Richmond at 1:30pm.
