Red Birds lost a real puzzler on Friday night, 5-3 at Gaylord Islanders.

Red Birds got 3 runs on 8 hits allowing 1 error and leaving 9 men on base.

Islanders got 5 runs on just 3 hits and one error and left 5 men on base.

Brad Walsh pitched the complete game win for the Islanders.

Kurt Jantscher got the start for the Red Birds and went 4.2 innings. Charged with all 5 runs, gave up 3 BBs, K’d 3 batters and hit 4 batters. Luke Penovich pitched 3.1 innings while striking out 3, walking 1 and allowing one hit.

The difference :

The Islanders had three inning ending infield double-plays that snuffed the scoring threat for the Red Birds with a total of 4 men in scoring position. While the calls at first were close calls, it seemed they could have been safe calls as well.
