Posted May 21/13 - Red Birds Defeat Fairfax Cardinals, 6-1, Win Opener for Kemble

Red Birds open the 2013 with a 6-1 win over the Fairfax Cardinals in Fairfax this evening, giving Manger Kyle Kemble an opening season win!   JT Thompson gets teh victory; pitches 8 innings allowing an unearned run in the first inning, retired 15 of the last 18 batters faced.  Malmgren pitched a scoreless 9th.

Fairfax scored their only run in the top of the first on a wild pitch.  Red Birds tied the score in the top of the 7th, with T.J. Gulden scoring from 1st on John Gulden's double to deep left center.

With Scored tied at 1-1 in the top of the ninth,   Jeff Pavlovich singled.  Malmgren bunted him to second.  T.J. hit by pitch.  John G. singled advanced the runners one base.  Zach Swenson hit a grounder to second, and the throw home was wild scoring Pav and T. J. .  Then Catcher Kurt Jantscher launched a 3 run homer over the right field wall driving in John G. and Zach to complete the scoring.

Here's a wild inning for you.  In the bottom of the third, for Fairfax.  First battter singled to left and was thrown out Bergner-Nate Swenson-T.J Gulden trying to stretch to double.  2nd batter walked, then caught stealing 2-1-6-4.  Third batter walked then caught stealing 2-6.  No conventional outs that inning. Wierd, but GOOD!

Red Birds next game at home on Sunday, May 26, 4:00 PM start against the New Ulm Kaiserhoff.  Weather should be good ... It's about time!

Red Birds 1-0 in the RVL Central.

Congratulations, Kyle!
