Posted Jun 2/13 - Red Birds Drop one to Henderson Tigers, 7-4

Henderson opened the Tiger Weekend for the Red Birds with a 7-4 win over the Chanhassen Red Birds on Saturday night.

The Red Birds opened the scoring with two runs in the first inning on a single by Mike Cerjance and Kurt jantscher reaching on an error by the Henderson shortstop, followed by Andrew Berenguer's triple to left center.

Adam Johnson got the starting nod for Kyle Kemble's local nine, and pitched 2 hit ball through 4 innings, getting 3 K's and allowing 5 BBs. The Tigers got 3 unearned run in the top of the fourth on three Johnson walks and two costly Red Bird errors.  John Eischens relieved Johnson in the 5th inning and went the rest of the way striking out 9 tgers, but also allowing 6 walks.

The Red Birds tied the game at 3 in the bottom of the 4th when Zach Swenson walked and an error at second allowed Paul Jobin to reach safely, Both runners advanced on the wild throw to first base.  Nate Swenson singled to score Zach from third.  Tiger starter, Matt Peot struck out the next two batters to end the threat by the Red Birds.

The 4 infield errors and the 11 walks and 3 hit batters by the Red Birds proved to be too big a hurdle to overcome.  chanhassen out-hit Henderson 7 hits to 6, but timely hitting was missing from this game with 5 runners left in scoring position.

Chanhassen newcomer, Andrew Berenguer has been on a hot streak at the plate so far this year, but will be lost for the next 3-4 weeks.  After his second hit, a single in the top of the 4th, he dove back into first on a successful pickoff play from the Tigers, breaking two fingers.

Wiht the win, Henderson moved ahead of the Red Birds in the Central Division race with a 3-1 record; Red Birds drop to 2-1 in the division, 3-2 overall for the year.

Red Birds host the Belle Plaine Tigers Sunday night, to compete the Tiger Weekend.  Game time is 6:00 PM at Storm Red Bird Stadium.
