Capital City Select opened up their season against the Keizer Knights and West Salem Titans on Sunday at Salem Academy High School. In the morning game Capital City started off slow against the Knights; going down 1-0 on a ground out by Jacob Wood in the top of the 2nd. The pace picked up offensively for the Black Sox in the 3rd; they rolled up 5 runs on 4 hits, capped off by a 2 RBI single by Travis Klampe. They tacked on 3 more in the 4th to go up 8-1. The Knights came back and scored 2 unearned runs in the top of the 7th but it wasn't enough with the game ending at an 8-3 score. Travis Klampe went 2-4 with 3 RBI's and pitched well getting the win in 4 innings pitched, giving up1 run, striking out 3. Cyrus Mooney also led the Sox at the plate going 3-3 with a 2B and 2 RBI's.

In game two the Black Sox started off slow again giving up 3 runs in the top of the 1st to West Salem on 2 walks and a hit by pitch. Capital City cut the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the 1st on a Connor Goff single. Goff and Jackson Soto had consecutive base hits in the 3rd inning to give the Sox the lead 4-3. After Caleb Henry scored in the top of the 4th to tie it up for the Titans the Black Sox answered again; Goff hit a 3-run homerun over the left field fence giving Capital City a 7-4 lead heading into the 5th. Daniel Zavala added two more RBI's on an infield hit in the bottom of the 5th and Trent Hardin slammed the door on the mound... giving the Black Sox a 9-5 Win. Goff was great at the plate; going 3 for 4 with a 2B, HR and 5 RBI's. Hardin K'd 6 over 3 innings and Cody Ratliff picked up the win for the Sox.

The Black Sox have their first tournament of the year next week in Pasco Washington, schedule will be announced this week.
