New Munich scored all three runs in the first inning then made it stand as they defeated the Flames 3-0 on an overcast and humid day in Farming.
After a tough first inning, Brad Mergen settled down and pitched well for the Flames, going six innings, and allowing just one hit with 12 strikeouts. None of the New Munich runs were earned. Zack Posterick pitched the final three innings, and put all zeros up as well.
A number of Flames rallies were stifled, primarily by some excellent catches from the New Munich outfielders. Jimmy Thull pitched all nine innings for the Silverstreaks, allowing just six hits. Ryan Schleper went 2 for 4 for the Flames.
Next weekend, the Flames travel to Greenwald on Saturday for a 1:30pm game with the Cubs, then host the Spring Hill Chargers on Sunday at 1:30pm in Farming. The Flames are currently 1-4 now in the Stearns County League South, but have played some pretty good baseball. We just need to get the bats going a little more.
Come out next weekend and cheer 'em on! |
