Posted Jun 15/10 - Red Birds lose 2-1 to Jordan Brewers

June 15 - Chanhassen visited the MiniMet in Jordan on Tuesday evening and lost 2 -1 to drop to 4 - 2 in River Valley League play.

Line Score:

Chan    -  001  000  000   -  1   6   1   LOB (7)

Jordan  -  200  000  00X   -  2   7   1   LOB (6)

Jordan scored twice in the bottom of the 1st inning on a walk and three hits and held the Red Birds in check most of the game.  Red Birds pitcher, Adam Heitz issued a walk to right fielder, Aaron Langswiert to open the game.  After a pop out to catcher Zach Swenson, the Brewers got 3 consecutive singles from Scott Hollingsworth, Trent Simek, and Tim Garnhardt.  Langswiert and Hollingsworth scored on the Simek and Garnhardt singles respectively.  Heitz got two groundouts to end the inning, but the Red Birds were in a hole that they couldn't climb out of the rest of the way.

Red Birds scored their only run in the third, when Luke Penovich singled on a hard smash off the 3rd baseman's glove to open the inning.  Scott Nicholson hit a grounder to 3rd but the throw to first was wild for an error, and both runners advanced another base.   With Penovich just 90 feet from home, Casey Malmgren hit a bouncer to short stop that plated Penovich for the only score for the Red Birds.

Jordan's Starting pitcher, Justin Thompson, struck out 9, walked 1 and Hit 1 batter in his 6 innings of work, allowing only the unearned run in the Red Bird 3rd inning.  Alex Rylander pitched the 7th inning and allowed three hits, but a double play erased a leadoff single by Nick Brenner, and got Zach Neubauer on a strikeout to end the threat with no damage.  Tyler Oakes pitched the last two innings and got three Ks allowing only 1 hit and 1 walk.  Hollingsworth got 3 hits in 4 AB's and scored the winning run for the Brewers.  The Brewers left 6 men on base, 3 of them in scoring position.

Adam Heitz pitched a very good game, going the full 9 innings, scattering 7 hits and getting 10 Ks, and issuing only 2 BBs.  His 22 of 32 first pitch strikes reflected his great control for the entire game.  Zach Swenson gunned down an attempted steal by Hollingsworth in the 3rd inning, making 3 caught stealings in a row over the last two games by Red Bird catchers.  Penovich got two singles in his 4 plate appearances and scored the only run for Chanhassen.  The Red Birds left 7 runners on base, 5 in scoring position.

The Red Birds next game is Friday night, June 18th at home, where the Chaska Cubs visit Storm/Red Bird Stadium for Youth Little League night.  Game time is 7:30 PM.  Bring a non-perishable food item for PROP and get $1.00 off the price of admission.
