Posted Jun 20/10 - Saints have no mercy for Red Birds on Father's Day

St. Peter dealt the Red Birds an 11 - 1 pounding on Father's Day, June 20th.   The Red Birds scored a run in the top of the 1st, but the Saints responded with 1 of their own in the bottom of the first and then scored 10 more on 10 hits, 7 BBs and 4 errors from the Red Birds.

Line Score

Chanhassen   100  000  00    1 -  5 - 4   LOB 5

St. Peter      103  120  13   11 - 11 - 1   LOB 12

The Red Birds seemed pretty lethargic after the heart breaking loss to the Chaska Cubs on Friday night, as Saints Starter, Jesse Anderson, held the visitors to just 5 hits, getting 7 Ks (4 called 3rd strikes) and allowing only 1 BB while getting the complete game victory.

Red Birds only score came in the 1st inning with Adam Heitz reaching 1st on a hard smash under the 3rd baseman.  Cary McLaughlin then doubled to left center moving Heitz to 3rd, who then scored on Nick Brenner's sacrifice fly to RF.

The Saints responded in the bottom of the opening frame.  Red Birds starter, McLaughlin, struggled with control and walked the first three battes.  Saints 3rd baseman, Ben Mikelson, then hit a sacrifice fly to CF Casey Malmgren, to get the first of his 5 RBIs for the game, scoring C. J. Siewert from 3rd base.

The Saints scored 3 runs in the 3rd inning on 5 hits.  Saints catcher, Billy Hanson, singled to right; Mikelson doubled to score Hanson with the game winner; then Mikelson scored on Tim Hoffman's single to center. Jeff Rossow reached on a fielders choice, and scored on a single by RF Chris Elberts.

The Red Birds looked to score in the 4th when McLaughlin lead off with a single to left for his second hit, followed by a double by Nick Brenner to left center.  Pitcher Anderson grounded the Birds to a halt getting Neubauer on a comebacker that he threw to 1st from his knees, and then silenced Tony Marengo and Zach Swenson with strikeouts, both looking, leaving McLaughlin stranded 90 feet away at 3rd.

Siewert scored twice more, as did Elberts.  Hanson drove in two runs on 3 singles.  2nd Baseman, Tony Vetter, scored once on two singles; LF Ryan Timmerman scored in the 5th after reaching base on the 2nd fielding error by SS Zach Neubauer.  Ben Mikelson did the most damage, driving in 5 runs on a double and a single and the SAC fly in the 1st.

McLaughlin worked 4 innings for the Red Birds allwoing 5 ER on 7 hits and 3 BB.  Adam Heitz moved to the mound for the 5th inning allowing 2 Runs on 1 hit and 3 BBs, but getting Ben Mikelson on a strikeout with his bat on his shoulder.

John Skubic worked the last 3 innings, struggling with control as he hit 4 batters, allowed 1 BB and 3 hits and the final 4 runs for the Saints.

The Red Birds next game is Tuesday evening, June 22nd, at Prior Lake with a 7:30 PM start; then the Red Birds travel to Le Sueur for a game with the Henderson Tigers on Wednesday evening, June 23rd, for another 7:30 PM start at Bruce Frank Field in Le Sueur.
