Posted Jul 18/10 - Red Birds lose to Victoria, 9-4 on Fan Appreciation Night

The Victoria Vics visited Chanhassen and took away a 9-4 victory over the Red Birds in front of 325 fans on Red Birds Fan Appreciation Night.

A tight pitchers dual with no scoring through 6 innings, was broken open when the Vics scored 5 runs in the top of the 7th on 5 hits and two walks as 10 men batted.

The Red Birds got 2 in the 8th when the Voltin loaded the bases on three BBs and Mamlgren delivered a line drive to center field that scored Luke Penovich and Zach Neubauer.  Victoria got 4 more in the 9th on 1 hit and 4 walks off Penovich, and then Victoria snuffed the Red Bird two out rally after Cary McLaughlin and Nick Brenner scored on Neubauer's single to RF in the bottom of the 9th.

Adam Heitz pitched 6 innings and took the loss for the Red Birds and Kyle Voltin got the win, relieving Vics starter Alex Sommers in the 3rd inning.

Clark Poppitz reached base all 4 times to the plate with two singles, two walks and scored two runs for the Vics; Tony Bauer was 2-5 with an RBI and scored as well.

Neubauer and Casey Malmgren each had 3 hits for the Red Birds with Malmgren getting 2 RBIs on a bases loaded single in the 8th inning.

Red Birds had some good chances to score early, but the Vics pitching and defense tightened up when it needed to through the 7th inning.  The Red Birds left 12 men on base, 6 of them in scoring position.  Solid hitting with men in scoring position has plagued the Red Birds for much of this inaugural season for the Red Birds.

The 3rd seed Red Birds enter the Division Playoffs with a game against the 2nd seeded Le Sueur Braves at Bruce Frank Field in Le Sueur this Friday night, July 23rd at 7:30 pm.  Earlier this season, Chanhassen beat Le Sueur in their park 14-1 and then Le Sueur returned the favor beating Chanhassen 8-1 at Storm/Red Bird Stadium.   Chanhassen is guaranteed a second playoff game on Sunday, July 25th; time and location to be announced after Friday night's game.
