Posted Jul 1/12 - Red Birds out-slug the Brewers, 13-9 on Saturday Night
The Chanhassen Red Birds exploded for 13 runs in the 4th inning against Glencoe last night to erase a 5 run deficit, and build enough of a cushion to out-last the visiting Brewers in a non-league game at Storm Red Bird Stadium on Saturday night.

On a Hot, Hot, Hot evening that featured the performance of the National Anthem by 11 year old, Elise Peterson of Glencoe, the Red Bird bats were sluggish and the fielding was even more sluggish as the locals committed 3 errors in the first 4 innings to give the Brewers an early 5-0 lead on 1 hit, and 5 walks.  Each of the first 4 runs by the Brewers were scored by players that were walked by starting Red Bird pitcher, Kurt Jantscher.

But, in the bottom of the 4th inning (sponsored by McDonald & Associates), the Red Birds opened the throttle on their batting prowess.  Starting with a single by Justin Thompson, the Red Birds had 7 hits and 2 walks, scoring 8 runs without making an out.  After the first out, the Red Birds batted 9 more players and scored another 5 runs to make it 13-5.

For the inning, Kemble, Thompson, Jantscher, Penovich and Teigland each scored twice; Kemble, TJ Gulden, Thompson, Jantscher and Roy each got two hits; Roy got three RBIs, Penovich and Jantscher each had 2 RBIs.

Most of the hitting damage was done against the Brewers relief pitcher, Scott Wawrzyniak, but to be fair, the Red Birds just hit the balls where the Brewers weren't.  There were no Brewer errors committed in the inning.

Lukas Penovich relieved Jantscher in the top of the 5th and worked the next 4 innings, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits and a walk, while striking out 4 Brewers.

Making a nail-biter out of the game, the Brewers got two singles and walk to load the bases in the top of the 9th inning.  Reid Teigland relieved Penovich with nobody out.  Two walks scored two runs with the bases still loaded.  Teigland then got the #9 batter on a called third strike, and 3B Josh Kraby's high fly ball to left field settled into Kyle Kemble's glove to end the rally and seal the victory for the Red Birds.

Game time Temperature was 90 degrees, and time of the game was 2 hours and 43 minutes.  To open the game, Billy Kemble threw out the first pitch to his son, Kyle Kemble to honor all the fathers and grand fathers in the stands.  And a loud and raucous crowd was on hand to celebrate the 50th birthday of Jerry House.

Next game: Sunday Night, 6:00 PM at the Belle Plaine Tigers.
