The Markham Mariners Mosquito rep team played in the York Simcoe Championships and went undefeated to capture the YSBA title

The team started off slow narrowly beating Bolton 8-7 in the tournament opener.  The team was down 1 run heading into their final at bat but received clutch hits from Shane Nixon and Malachi Swartz's walk off single to score the winning run.

In their 2nd game, the team faced Georgina and again pulled out a tough 6-5 victory.  The big hit came off the bat of Mitchell Hoyt with a two-out, 3 RBI double in the bottom of the 4th inning.  Drew Nixon and Malachi Swartz combined for 5 innings of 3 hit ball against Georgina.

With the win, Markham was the only undefeated team left and received a bye into round 4 against a very tough Barrie team.  However, the Markham boys came out to play and dominated taking the contest 13-5.  Max Dennison pitched 4 innings of 2 run ball and the offence banged out 13 hits in the convincing win and securing a spot in the finals on Sunday against Aurora.

The Sunday finale did not start out well for Markham as they were down 5-1 after 2 innings.  The team stayed focus though getting a gutsy 5 inning performance from starting pitcher Dean Christidis and some timely hitting from everyone in the lineup to tie the score at 7-7 after 5 innings.  After giving up 2 runs to Aurora in the top half of the last inning, it set the stage for another comeback.  After 3 of the first 4 batters hit singles the team had the winning run on 2nd base with 2 outs.  Kyle Funk came through with the big 2 run double over the centre fielder's head for the exciting nail biting 10-9 win.  In the championship win, the team recorded 16 hits and had contributions from top to bottom of the lineup.  Truly a team win!!!!
