The Mounties set the tone early in the top of the first when they retired the first 3 Cloverdale batters on 9 pitches. In the bottom of the first the Mounties scored the maximum allowed and took a 4 run lead after 1 inning. The Mounties added 2 more in the 2nd inning for a 6 - 0 lead.
In the 3rd inning the Mounties once again scored the maximum runs allowed and finished the inning with the bases juiced and zero outs. Cloverdale broke the shutout in the top of the 4th to make the score 10 - 1 after 3 and a half innings.
In the bottom half of the 4th, the Mounties scored 3 more and then shut the Spurs down in the 5th to end the game at 13 - 1.
The Mounties defence had an opportunity to redeem itself today, and it did in a big way making all of the routine plays and a couple of spectacular ones en route to a flawless defensive performance. Offensively the Mounties used a relentless assault bashing out 12 hits.
The Vancouver Mounties would like to express our thanks to the many Tri City parents, players and volunteers who worked hard all weekend preparing fields and doing all the little things behind the scenes that made this tournament such a success.
The Mounties conclude their pre-season with a record of 10 - 1 - 1 and will open the regular season at home on Saturday against the expansion Nanaimo Pirates.
