Vancouver Guarantees win in Tournament Opener!

Posted May 12, 2012

The Richmond Victoria Day Long Weekend Tournament Schedule has been released and if you are a betting person it might not be a bad idea to put a little money on Vancouver to win the opening game of the Tournament.

The opening game in the Tournament pits the Vancouver Mounties vs. the Vancouver Cardinals which should guarantee that a Vancouver team will win that first game.  It could also mean that a Vancouver team also loses the opening game, so its a win, lose situation for Vancouver Community Baseball.

The Vancouver AA Cardinals from Vancouver Community Baseball stepped up at the last minute and filled the 8th and last spot in the tournament after a team dropped out.  Now before you all go out and bet your houses on Vancouver (which the Mounties are not condoning or approve of) remember their could be a tie and that would certainly bode well for both Vancouver teams who both have aspirations on their quest to advance to the Crossover finals.  Stranger things have happened in this tournament!

The Mounties and Cardinals are in Pool "B" which also includes the Nanaimo Pirates, and the Abbotsford Angels (have to remember to try and keep the walks down in this one).  Pool "A" consists of the Cloverdale Black Spurs, Ridge Meadows Royals, L.A. Dodgers, and the host Richmond Chuckers.

This tournament has a delightful history and has always been run 1st class by the Richmond parents/volunteers.  This year they have added  a Homerun Contest on Saturday night.   A great event which always seems to be enjoyed more by the non participating players, who have a great time cheering on their teammates every time they knock one out of the park.  But you better get as least one out of the park as your teammates can also turn on you fast and sometimes it seems like they have more fun jeering their teammates if they don't hit any and have to endure the walk off shame off the park.

Note:  A Full Tournament Schedule and Tournament rules have been posted in the handouts section.
