Protest News Mounties vs Cloverdale Red
Posted July 9, 2012
The Vancouver Mounties and Cloverdale Red Spurs have agreed on a date and time to settle their June 12th baseball game that was called because of darkness. When the game was called due to darkness the game reverted back to the score at the start of the inning giving the Red Spurs an 11 - 9 Victory.
However due to an egregious rule interpretation before darkness set in the game was protested by the Mounties. The game will resume in the top of the 7th inning with the score tied at 11 and the Mounties batting with 2 outs and runners on 1st and 3rd.
Cloverdale General Manager Robichaud has provided the Mounties with a couple of options to replay the game and the Mounties have agreed to the Wednesday July 25th option at Cloverdale Ballpark starting at the unusual time of 6:22pm.
Mounties Prevail after 28 day Protest saga is finally settled!
In an email sent today (July 8) from B.C. Minor President Mike Sarai, it has been concluded that the board of directors ruling yesterday (July 7, 2012) upheld the appeal decision in its entirety with no specific start time. The 9:00 pm start time has been scrapped and it is now up to both teams to find a suitable date so the game can be re-scheduled and completed.
Re-Write of Rule Book for Mountie Protest?
After the Vancouver Mounties successfully won their protest and then successfully won their appeal due to the protest decision not following the rules as laid out in the B.C. Minor Rule book, the Mounties for the third time have won their protest after the appeal by the Cloverdale Red Spurs was overruled by a full B.C. Minor board vote.
But without a formal decision delivered to the Mounties, the Mounties have been advised by Bantam AAA Division Chair Ray Wearing that they will now have to replay the protested game starting at 9:00pm in the evening. The Mounties are still wondering how and why the 9:00 pm time was determined. After scouring through the B.C. Minor rule book this decision once again has come out of left field and the Mounties are left to ponder why they once again have been penalized by the B.C. Minor Board for a decision where the umpires where clearly in the wrong.
If the game is to start at 9:00 pm the Mounties will be looking to re-play the game at a field that has lights as starting a game at 9:00 pm does not make any sense since the B.C. Minor rule book states that a game should be replayed from the time of protest and not at the time of day of the protest. If the time holds it create a precedent to any protests that are launched in the future. The Mounties are hoping to get a proper written decision explaining on how the B.C. Minor Board came to the time conclusion.
