June 12th Game Completed July 25!
Posted July 25, 2012
With only 1 strike to spare the Mounties were able to cash in both their basernners, and then shutout the Red Spurs in the bottom of the 7th to complete their 4 run inning and defeat the Red Spurs by a 13 to 11 score.
When the game started Soper came in to pinch hit with a 1 and 2 count and laid off the first pitch, a curveball in the dirt that found its way to the backstop. Wright seized the opportunity and promptly stole home to give the Mounties the lead. Soper then fouled the next 3 pitches off and on the following pitch lined a single out to right field to score Caine.
With the Mounties leading by 2 Soper took the mound and after giving up a leadoff single, he retired the next 3 batters to end the game.
Protest Saga Hopefully Ends Tonight!
Well it all started on June 12th and now 43 days later an attempt will be made to complete a game that has more lives and story lines that an afternoon soap opera.
The game was played, protested, called for darkness, appealed, re appealed with the outcome decision going to a full B.C. Minor Board Vote at their July 7th board meeting. It was then announced that the game was to resume at 9:00pm at a field that did not have any lights? After another appeal by the Mounties to B.C. Minor President Mike Sarai a 6:22pm start time at Cloverdale ballpark was finally offered up by Cloverdale GM Pierre Robichaud. Then after all of this both teams had different counts on the batter at the time the game was stopped. The home teams count was ruled to be correct.
Even though the Mounties had every right to protest the game, and were actually proved right that the umpires wrong interpetation of the rule put a premature ending to the Mountie comeback. It has been portrayed and alleged that the Mounties were just using the protest as a tactic because it was getting dark. Now everyone knows that the Mounties coaches would never do something like that. Would they? Nah.............
At the end of the day all the talk and hype will now take a backseat to the completion of this game. The Teams will play it out and the boys will settle it on the field. As far as the game itself. It will resume with the Mounties up to bat in the top of the 7th inning with the score tied at 11. The Mounties have men on 1st and 3rd with 2 outs and the count is 1 ball and 2 strikes on the batter.
Robichaud has informed us that the RCMP is on standby, so the Mounties will feel a bit more comfortable entering the hostile evniroment that awaits them tonight at Cloverdale Ballpark. Hmmm... do you think Robichaud realizes that the "M" in RCMP stands for MOUNTIES?
