Bantam AAA League drops to 14 Teams!
Posted February 15, 2013
Three new Associations have thrown their hats back into the ring: Burnaby who last played in the league in 2011 when they placed 5th will be merging with South Burnaby; Vancouver Minor who finished in 11th spot in 2010; and Okanagan who finished 13th in 2011 have returned and should be better than ever with their megamerger team made up of 4 associations (Kelowna, Rutland, Vernon and West Side).
It is unfortunate that the League will be down a team as the rules that were implemented in the off season to spread talent amongst teams might be having a negative effect as many players are getting squeezed out with the new rules. As such there are now LESS players playing and developing at the Bantam AAA level.
The League's 14 teams will be Abbotsford, Aldergrove, Burnaby, Cloverdale, Comox, Coquitlam, Kamloops, Nanaimo, Okanagan, Richmond, Vancouver Minor, Victoria Black, Victoria Red, and White Rock.
The League has decided that there will be a balanced schedule with each team playing each other 3 times, for a total of 39 games. The top 7 teams plus the host Kamloops (if host team Kamloops does not place in the top 8) or the top 8 teams including the host (if host team Kamloops finishes in the top 8) will secure the first 8 Provincial spots. This year the regular season will have less meaning as far as Provincial spots are concerned as NO teams will be eliminated due to regular season play. The last 6 teams will fight it out in a wildcard tournament on the weekend before the Provincials to win the last two Provincial spots.
