Mounties Get SATISFACTION with "B" Flight Championship
The
Vancouver Mounties regrouped after Sunday's tough loss to the Richmond
Chuckers to defeat the White Rock Tritons 17 - 7 in the "B" Flight semi
finals and then went on to win the "B Flight Championship with a 10 - 4
extra inning victory over the Abbotsford Angels. Although this is not
the trophy the Mounties wanted they were thankful for the extra games
and the opportunity to play for the "B" Flight Championship.
This
was the biggest Bantam AAA Tournament in the Lower Mainland in many
years with 12 teams and a total of 26 games played over the duration of
the competition. Congratulations to the Cloverdale Spurs who won the
tournament posting an 8 - 2 victory over the host Richmond Chuckers in
the championship game. Victoria Black Eagles won the "C" flight with a 7 - 5 victory over the Victoria Red Eagles team.
A
special thanks goes out to Tournament Director Trevor Rennie and the
many other Richmond Chucker parents and volunteers who gave up their
long weekend to do field work, concession duties and all the other
little things that it takes to put on a tournament of this magnitude.
Also a special thanks to George Smith Umpire coordinator for making sure
all games had umpires and to the many umpires who worked all the games.
It's a tough and difficult job where it seems the more you are not
noticed, the better you are doing. Just doesn't seem right.
"B" Flight Semi final Game: Mounties 17 White Rock 7
The
Mounties started out slowly having their worst defensive inning of the
tournament giving up 3 hits, a walk, a HBP while helping out the White
Rock cause contributing with 2 errors. White Rock scored another run in
the top of the 2nd and the Mounties were down by a 5 - 0 score after
the dust settled. The Mounties managed 1 back in the bottom of the 2nd
and then took the lead in the bottom of the 3rd when they ignited for 7
runs to give them a 8 - 5 lead after 3 innings.
White Rock came
back with 2 in the top of the 4th but the Mountie bats were not going to
go away and the Mounties scored 3 in the bottom half of the 4th and
another 6 in the 5th to record a 17 - 7 mercy win. The Mounties busted
out with 14 hits while holding the Tritons to 6.
"B" Flight Championship Game Mounties 10 Abbotsford 4 (8 innings)
Both
teams looked a bit lethargic in this game causing both coaching staffs a
bit of anguish. Younan scored in the top of the 4th to give the
Mounties a 1 - 0 lead and the Mounties added another 2 runs in the top
of the 5th. Things looked to be going along ok until the bottom of the
5th when Abbotsford roared back scoring 4 runs and chasing Mounties
starter Kingsbury from the game. The Mounties tied it up in the top of
the 6th when Tintero clutched up with a 2 out double scoring Lee who was
pitch running for Hogan. The game stayed that way through 7 complete
innings.
The Mounties seemed to get a bit excited in the top of
the 8th when they saw that there was a trophy for the winner of the
game. It's sometimes surprising how a piece of hardware can excite a
group of young men. The Mounties blasted out 7 hits scoring 6 runs.
Ensing continued to do his job shutting the door and keeping the Angels
off the board. Final score Mounties 10 Abbotsford 4.

Mounties GET KNOCKED DOWN By Chuckers!
The
Vancouver Mounties have been eliminated from the Championship Round of
the RCBA Victoria Day Tournament after coming up on the wrong end of a 1
- 0 score in their quarter final game to the host Richmond Chuckers.
Pitchers dominated in this one with Richmond's starter Marquis out
dueling Mounties starter Younan.
It was a well played game with
the Mounties defence once again playing flawless baseball but Richmond
won the hit department by a 6 to 2 margin and at the end of the day took
advantage of one of their opportunities and were able to score the
game's only run.
It was a disappointing loss for the Mounties as
they had high hopes of continuing the winning ways of past Mountie teams
at this tournament, but as everyone knows all streaks eventually come
to an end. The Mounties can hold their heads high as they were
defeated by a very talented and well coached Richmond Chuckers team and
in typical Mountie fashion they never gave up and played hard until the
final out.
The Mounties now face the White Rock Tritons as they
drop down to the "B" Semi Finals. The winner of that game will play the
winner of the other "B" Flight semi finals between Okotoks Dawgs and
the Abbotsford Angels.
In the Championship Round the Richmond
Chuckers will face the Burnaby Braves in one Semifinal game and in the
other game the Aldergrove Dodgers will do battle with the Cloverdale
Spurs.

Victoria Day Tournament hosted by the Richmond City Baseball
Association.

Mounties Bats Catch FIRE!
Things
were hot from the start as a house fire across the street had Blundell
closed causing havoc as many players and parents had to walk from blocks
away to the park as the parking lot was inaccessible due to the many
hoses strewn across the street. Although the Richmond Fire Department
did a fantastic job putting out the apartment fire there was no way of
chillin' the Mounties hot wood bats which continued to blaze like
kindling all night long.
The Mounties mixed 14 hits in with 16
base on balls and hit by pitches to defeat the Burnaby Braves by a 25 - 3
score. Unfortunately BC. Minor Tournament tie Breakers are determined
by runs for and against and unlike in American tournaments which have an
earlier mercy rule and use a maximum run differential tie breaker of 8
the Mounties had little choice but to put as many runs on the board as
they could to ensure a better chance of advancing to the playoff round.
Quito
and Kingsbury led the way with 3 hits each and Lindeman chipped in with
a pair. Hogan, Kingsbury and Tintero fresh off the DL each recorded 3
RBI's. Table setters Quito (5) Yang (4) and Ensing (3) combined for 12
of the Mounties runs. Sebben picked up the win with Gee coming in to
get a bit of work finishing out the game.

Mounties WALK into Richmond to Open Tournament!
The
Vancouver Mounties will be playing in one of two games tonight, to open
up the Richmond Victoria Day Tournament. The Mounties open against the
Burnaby Braves and on Saturday will meet up with the Victoria Black
Eagles. The two top teams from this pool will advance to the
championship playoff round while the bottom team will be relegated to
the consolation round.
The Richmond City Baseball Association
always puts on great tournaments and this year is no exception as they
have brought in an unprecedented 12 teams to compete for the
championship, including Okotoks an elite team from Alberta that
the Mounties met and defeated in last year's National Championships
in Vaughan, ON.
There will be 4 pools of 3 with the top 2 teams from each pool advancing.
Pool A Abbotsford, Cloverdale, and Victoria Red.
Pool B Aldergrove, Nanaimo, and Okotoks,
Pool C Burnaby Vancouver Mounties, and Victoria Black.
Pool D Okanagan, Richmond, and White Rock.
The Mounties have had great success in the Victoria Day Tournament winners of the 2010 Infamous Walkgate
Tournament, and then repeating when they won in 2011, In 2012 after
advancing to the semi final there quest for a 3 peat was put on hold by
Mother Nature as the 2012 tournament was never completed due to very wet
weather.
So the Mounties will be looking to 3-peat this year but
know that it will be a very tough row to hoe, as they will have a
bullseye on their backs, and 11 other strong teams who have different
ideas would like nothing better than to put an end to the Mounties run.
The Mounties are looking forward to the challenge!
A complete tournament schedule and Rules are posted and can be found in the handout section of this website.
