Mounties FEEL GOOD After Come Back Win!
Posted May 22, 2013
It is starting to feel like a scene from Groundhog Day as this is the 3rd time the Mounties have played the Tritons and it is the 3rd time that they fell behind by a 5 - 0 score after 2 innings and it is also the 3rd time that they managed to come back and win the game.
Mounties starter Yang was literally unable to stop the bleeding nor was the Mountie defence who were unable to make enough plays early in the game to help out their starting pitcher. Meanwhile, the Mounties struggled offensively stranding 4 base runners over the first 2 innings.
Eventually the Mounties added singles in the 3rd and 4th innings shaving the Triton lead to 3. However in the top of the 5th the Tritons after their first batter reached on error made the Mounties pay with 3 consecutive hits scoring 4 runs to extend their lead to 7 taking a 9-2 lead.
The Mounties got the break that they needed in the bottom of the 5th after the White Rock reliever struck out the first 2 Mountie batters, he then struck out Younan but the catcher was not able to come up with the ball and Younan beat out the throw to 1st. Ensing and Tintero then launched back to back doubles before the White Rock pitcher recorded his 4th strikeout of the inning to end it. The Mounties scored 2 and narrowed the score to 9-4.
With 2 innings left the Mounties felt they had a chance if the could keep the Tritons off the board the rest of the way. But the Mounties would only need one of those bats as Lee who was an offensive force all game, led off the inning with a walk and later on in the same inning had a 2 RBI single to knock in the tying and winning runs. It ended up being an 8 run inning for the Mounties which catapulted them into a 12-9 lead after 6 innings.
Ensing who entered the game in the 3rd inning continued his great outing shutting down the Tritons in the 7th handing the Tritons goose eggs for 4 of the 5 innings that he was in the game.
In summary it was a bit of a sloppily played game, as both teams seemed to be battling tournament hangover. But one thing that is guaranteed with this Mountie team, it will not quit or give up and as in Mountie tradition will play each and every inning with the same heart, desire and passion regardless of the score.
