Mounties WANT TO ROCK in Aldergrove!

Posted May 25, 2013

The Vancouver Mounties continued their winning ways with 2 wins over the Aldergrove Dodgers.  The Mounties won the first game by an 11 - 2 score and in the 2nd game hung on to post a 7 - 5 victory over the Dodgers to complete the sweep.

Game 1   Mounties 11 Aldergrove 2
Aldergrove struck quick in this one when leadoff batter Cantelon tripled to right field putting the Mounties back on their heels.  Mounties starter Younan managed to get the next 3 batters to hit out but not before Cantelon scored on a ground out to give the Dodgers the early lead.

The Mounties got that run back plus another after leadoff batter Yang was plunked and Ensing drew a walk.  Hogan moved them both over with a sac bunt and Tintero with 2 outs blooped a single to score both base runners giving the Mounties a 2 - 1 lead after one inning.

The Mounties imposed their will on the Dodgers in the 2nd inning as Currie and Hogan both squeezed doubles around Yang's single along with Sebben and Kingsbury's walks to score 5 runs extending the Mountie lead to 7 - 1.  The Mounties added 1 more in the 3rd, 2 more in the 4th and 1 more in the 5th on their way to an 11 - 2 victory over the Dodgers.

Younan went the distance for the Mounties spreading out 4 hits, walking no one and striking out 5 Dodger batters throughout 7 innings of work.  The Mounties collected 9 hits in the game with Younan and Tintero each recording a pair.  In the most important stat Ensing, Hogan, and Sebben all scored twice.

Game 2  Mounties 7 Aldergrove 5
In the nightcap Aldergrove brought their Ace Yi-An Pan to the hill and the Mounties countered with Gee.  After a scoreless first inning the Mounties hit the board first in the bottom of the 2nd when Younan led off with a single.  Pan retired the next two batters. Gee then singled, Currie walked and Quito doubled to give the Mounties a 2 - 0 lead.

In the 3rd Cantelon led off with another triple and scored on a sac fly.  The Mounties promptly got that run back when Mt. Seymour Little League Alumni Ensing and Hogan respectfully doubled and then singled to restore the Mountie lead to 2 runs.

The next scoring came in the bottom of the 5th Ensing doubled, Younan reached on error and Lindeman coming in to pinch hit made like a postal worker and delivered a double to right field.  Gee and Currie followed up with singles and the Mounties added 3 very important insurance runs to give them a 6 - 1 lead after 5 innings.

Gee left the game in the 6th after walking and hitting a batter.  Yang came in and got out of the inning but not before Aldergrove put 2 runs on the board.  In the 6th Pan was near his pitch limit and removed from the mound.  Yang, Ensing and Kingsbury welcomed the new Aldergrove pitcher to the game with singles and more importantly another Mountie run to make the score 7 - 3.  The Dodgers were a determined group and came out swinging in the bottom of the 7th scoring 2 runs but Yang was able to get the last batter to strike out, ending the game with the Mounties holding on for a 7 - 5 victory.

The Mounties doubled the Dodgers in hits pounding out a total of 14 throughout the contest.  The Dodger defence was stellar keeping the game close with many nice plays.  Ensing was on a mission still stinging from a loss a couple of years ago as he had 4 hits including 2 doubles and a triple.  Quito and Gee also had multiple hit games.  It was a total team effort as 10 different Mountie players had hits in the game.  Gee recorded the win keeping the Dodgers off balance all game and Yang picked up the save in relief
