Mounties Defeat MEN IN BLACK!

Posted June 1, 2013

The Vancouver Mounties continued their winning ways,  making sure that they are still sitting in the catbird seat by defeating the Victoria Black Eagles by 9 - 4 and 6 - 2 scores in Bantam AAA League action at Vancouver's beautiful Nanaimo Park.

Game 1  Mounties 9 Victoria Black Eagles 4

The Mounties looked like they were on their way early in this one when their first 3 batters reached base and scored but after loading the bases hit into a double play thwarting their opportunity to do some big early damage.

The Eagles scored 2 in the top of the 3rd inning when Mounties starter Sebben ran into some control problems.  Gee came in and got the Mounties out of the inning.  The Mounties got those runs back in the bottom of the inning when Currie knocked in Tintero and Lindeman.

With the Mounties leading 5 - 2 both teams were unable to put any runs up in the 4th.  The Eagles picked up a couple of hits in the 5th to score a run and close the gap a bit.  The Mounties got that run back and one more when Kingsbury walked in the bottom of the inning stole 2nd before Currie doubled to score him.  Currie stole 3rd and then scored on Quito's ground out.  Mounties led 7 - 3 after 5 complete innings.

The next inning was a bit of the same with the Eagles adding another run and the Mounties putting 2 more up on the board.  Lindeman led off with a hit, Gee walked, and Kingsbury doubled to score them.

Gee walked the leadoff batter in the 7th but buckled down and retired the next 3 Eagle batters to end the game.  Both teams left numerous men on base and the Mounties outhit the Eagles by a 10 to 6 spread.  8 different Mounties scored in the game with Lindeman being the only Mountie to reach the holy grail twice.  Currie, Younan, and Tintero each chipped in with a pair of hits and Currie was the ribbie leader with 3.

Game 2  Mounties 6 Victoria Black Eagles 2
The Eagles scored first in this one and the Mounties tied it up when Yang singled, stole 2nd and scored on Ensing's hit.  The Mounties broke the 1 - 1 tie in the bottom of the 2nd when Quito knocked in Currie.  Both starting pitchers settled in and retired batters 3 up and 3 down in the 3rd inning.

Victoria tied the game in the top of the 4th scoring a run.  Once again the Mounties got that one back in the bottom of the inning when Lindeman led off with a single, stole 2nd and scored on Kingsbury's double.  The Mounties added an insurance run in the bottom of the 5th when the Mounties manufactured a run without getting a hit after Quito took a pitch to the elbow, was balked over to 2nd, stole 3rd base and scored when Ensing's grounded out.

With a 4 - 2 lead the Mounties continued to peck a way, and after Younan and Lindeman led off with back to back singles Lee sac bunted them over into scoring position.  Kingsbury who seemed to be in the middle of anything good or bad on the day singled to score both runners and give the Mounties a bit of breathing room going into the last inning.  Victoria was not going to go home quietly, leading off the inning with a single, but Younan was determined to finish off what he started and retired the next 3 batters to end the game.

Younan picked up the win going 7 innings giving up 2 runs on 5 hits while striking out 6 Eagle batters.  The Mounties collected 8 hits in the contest with Lindeman and Kingsbury having multiple hit games.  Lindeman also plated twice.

It was a good day of baseball with both teams putting forth great efforts.  Kingsbury gets the action award as he was making things happen all over the field today as he was involved as a runner and a hitter in the wrong end of two double plays, was thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double, but was also a force offensively pounding out 3 hits, and knocking in 5 Mountie runs.
