Inspector Clouseau Called In To Investigate Mounties Victory!
Posted June 12, 2013
It all started
out innocently enough but after the White Rock Tritons jumped out to another 5
run lead over the Mounties you knew that history had a chance of repeating its
self. For the 4th straight game the Tritons knocked the Mounties starting
pitcher from the game and for the 4th straight time rallied to a 5 run lead,
and for the 4th straight time the Mounties fought back to come from behind and
win the game.
The Mounties are no strangers to investigations but even they are a
bit spooked and perplexed by their inability to keep the White Rock
hitters at bay early in the games. However the Mounties are happy the way
the movie always seems to play out so as far as they are concerned there is no
need to edit the script.
The Mounties started the game out quite shaky, with the first 3 batters
striking out on a perfect 9 pitches. In the bottom half of the 1st, it
didn't get much better. The Tritons were pumped to get going, and jumped
on the Mounties starter for five hits and a walk to score five runs. The
Mounties took another page out of "The Greatest" Muhammad Ali's book,
and used the "Rope A Dope strategy to perfection, once again getting hit
early, but somehow found a way to comeback.
In the top of the 2nd, Lindeman got
things started with a walk, and the Mounties responded with 3 runs in the top
of the second, and 8 runs in the top of the third highlighted by a Currie
triple, and back to back homeruns by Ensing (inside the park) and
Hogan. The Mounties added 2 more runs in the 5th when Lee and Kingsbury
both singled, and with 2 outs and the bases loaded, Quito hit a 2 strike single
to cash Lee and Kingsbury. This put the Mounties ahead 13-5 going into the
bottom of the 5th.
The Tritons got one back in the bottom of the 5th when they had men on
1st and 3rd and tried to delay steal a runner to 2nd. With an 8 run lead
the Mounties decided it was a good trade off and elected to take the
out in a run down at 2nd letting the run score but also ending the
inning and keeping the Tritons from getting a rally started.
Currie got that run back in the top of the 6th when he
singled stole 2nd and 3rd and scored on Gee's ground out. White Rock
added another in the bottom of the 7th. The win goes to Ensing who did a
masterful job of coming in and cooling down the hot Triton bats.
Final score Mounties 14 White Rock 7.
The Mounties have now completed a stretch that saw them play 11 games
in the last 12 days. Other than a practice they will get a well deserved 3
days off before they face their next opponent.
