Orioles Comeback Leads to Extra Inning Loss

Coming off of a disappointing loss to Sioux Falls Christian, Lennox was focusing on scoring for the first time and making a close game happen. The Orioles were glad that Senior Delane Hood could play in his first game and not only play but he started pitching. For Garretson, Senior Aaron Dunn would start.

Delane Hood started off very impressive as he threw 10 pitches in the first and dominated with two fly outs and one ground out. In the bottom of the 1st, Lackas struck out and Oldenkamp reached on an error. Kayl walked and Hood struck out. Oldenkamp stole 2nd and so did Kayl. Sweeter came up with runners on 2nd and 3rd and he flew out to center to end the inning and the threat. In the 2nd, Hood made things easy with two ground outs and a strikeout to go three up and three down again. Tyler Johnson reaches on error and Brock Stein reaches on walk. Jacob Lackas would fall to a 0-2 count but he took a hit by pitch. Oldenkamp came up with 2 outs and bases loaded. He grounded out to third and the inning ended.

In the top of the third, Hood got a ground out and two strike outs. In the bottom of the third, Kayl would walk and Hood would strike out. After Kayl stole 2nd and 3rd, Sweeter would hit a ground ball to third and Kayl was thrown out to home while trying to score. Then Stein grounded out on a fielder’s choice. In the top of the 4th, a single, a strike out and an error leads to runners on third and second. A ground out would lead to a run scoring for Garretson. Hood earned a ground out to end the top of the fourth. Dunn would strike out the side in the bottom of the fourth.

In the top of the 5th, Hood would allow one runner on however two ground outs and a strike out ended that half of the inning. Lackas’ single and Hood’s hit by pitch lead to Sweeter batting with two outs. However, Sweeter would strike out and the inning would end. In the top of the 6th, a single and an error leads to Garretson scoring another run and making it two to zero. Stein, Wallenstein, and Brock Anderson all reached base with a single and two walks. With one out, Lackas hit a RBI single to make it 2 to 1. Oldenkamp and Kayl both hit fly outs and ended the 6th. In the seventh, two walks and 4 singles led to Garretson scoring 4 runs and making it 5 to 1. Hood’s walk and Sweeter’s single led to runners on first and second and no outs. Stein grounded out and Raysby singled in Hood to make it 5 to 2. Anderson was hit by pitch and then Lackas earned base due to an error on the right fielder and scored three runs to make it 5 to 5.

Going into the 8th which is an extra inning, Nick Kayl came into the game to pitch. After two walks and a single, Garretson scored 3 runs and made it 8 to 5. In the bottom of the 8th, Kayl hit a leadoff single, however he was picked off of first by the pitcher. Then, Delane Hood struck out and Sweeter hit a single up the middle to put a runner on first. Stein would then hit a ground out to second and end the game. Lennox had lost 8 to 5.

The Orioles took a lot of good things from this game as they scored their first run this year. They also made this a very close game as they had a comeback. The Orioles would then prepare for Salem on April 17th.
