Orioles’ Errors and Offense Anchor the Orioles from Soaring

The Lennox Orioles were fresh off the win against Canton and were ready to play Garretson. The Orioles traveled to Garretson on Sunday, April 26th for a 2:00 start time with no JV game to follow. Due to the fact the numbers on Garretson’s team are down, they were not going to have a JV game. The Orioles called upon Senior Pitcher Delane Hood to attempt to get the win and the Garretson Blue Dragons called upon Freshman Pitcher Isaiah Mader to throw.

In the top of the first, Lackas’ strikeout, Stein’s line drive out and Sweeter’s groundout made the top of the first quite easy for Mader and Garretson. Hood came out and made the bottom of the inning easy with two fly outs, a strike out and a single. In the top of the second, Raysby grounded out, Hood was hit by pitch and then Nick Kayl doubled to left field to put runners on second and third. However, Brock Anderson struck out and Braedon Wallenstein flew out to second to end the inning. With one out, Hood would give up a single and a hit by pitch, however, he picked off the runner on second and got a ground out to make the second end easy. In the third, Van Ningen’s strike out, Lackas’ strikeout, Stein’s single, and Sweeter’s groundout would make the third end easy again. In the bottom of the third, four singles and a hit by pitch led to four runs scoring for Garretson. In the top of the fourth, a strikeout, fly out and a ground out ended the inning easily with no fight from the Lennox offense. In the bottom of the fourth, a double, a single and an error would score one for Garretson with a five to zero lead.

Into the top of the fifth, Johnson’s strikeout, Buckneberg’s ground out and Van Ningen’s dropped third strike put a runner on first with two outs. However, Lackas would hit a very hard ground ball which was fielded and retired Van Ningen at second to end the inning. After a single with one out in the bottom of the fifth, Nick Kayl threw out Fitzgerald who was trying to steal second and made out number two. Hood got a line drive to end it. In the top of the sixth, Stein’s line out was out number one. Then Sweeter hit a single to right center to put a runner on. Back to back fielder’s choice’s from Raysby and Hood ended the inning with zero runs scoring. In the bottom of the sixth, two singles, one walk, one hit by pitch and an error lead to four more Garretson runs and a nine to zero lead. Lennox in the top of the seventh, would get Kayl on by an error. However, Johnson’s strikeout, Buckneberg’s fly out and Van Ningen’s fly out ended the game with Garretson winning nine to zero.

Lennox had hurt themselves by only having three hits and having four errors. They also gave up twelve hits to Garretson. However, Lennox could thank Kayl, Stein and Sweeter for their hits to add a little offense. Finally, Lennox loved the performance by Delane Hood in which he only gave up four earned runs. Without the errors, Garretson would have won four to zero.
