Orioles Defense is Flawless in Low Scoring Win
The Orioles were coming off of a disappointing loss to Tea and they were still win hungry. The Orioles would face Mount Vernon/ Plankinton/ Woonsocket and the Orioles chose Braedon Wallenstein to pitch. The Titans chose Charlie Maheffy to pitch vs the Orioles. The Titans from Mount Vernon were coming off of a win over Tea Area at a score of 12 to 1.
In the top of the first for Mount Vernon, two walks and a sacrifice fly would lead to one run scoring. In the bottom of the first, Stein’s hit by pitch, Leisinger’s hit, and Sweeter’s walk would load the bases with no outs. Raysby would strike out and then Jongeling would hit a sacrifice fly to score Stein and move Leisinger to third. Hood hit a single to left and scored Leisinger. Kayl would strike out to end the inning and the Orioles had a two to one lead. In the top of the second, one single and two walks led to Mount Vernon to score one more run and tie it up at two. In the home half of the second, three strikeouts made the inning end quickly. Mount Vernon came up to bat and three fly outs made the inning easy for Wallenstein. Into the bottom of the third, Leisinger’s fly out, Sweeter’s walk, Raysby’s strikeout and Lackas’ strikeout ended the inning with no runs.
Heading into the fourth, a single would not score due to three Mount Vernon strikeouts. In the bottom of the fourth, Kayl’s walk and Oldenkamp’s single would have put runners on second and first but instead Kayl tried to get to third and he was thrown out. Wallenstein struck out to end the Orioles threat. Two singles to lead off the top of the fifth would end up in no runs scoring due to a fly out and two strikeouts. In the home half of the fifth, Stein’s single ended up scoring nobody due to a ground out and two strikeouts. The Titans came up in the sixth trying to score the go ahead run. Due to the pitch limit, John Oldenkamp had to come in and pitch the sixth inning. Two groundouts and a strikeout allowed the inning to go quite smoothly. In the bottom of the sixth, Lackas’ hit by pitch, Hood’s strikeout, Kayl’s hit by pitch and Oldenkamp’s fielder’s choice led to Lackas scoring and a three to two Lennox lead. Kayl would be caught stealing and Wallenstein flew out to first to end the inning. In the seventh, a leadoff ground out would be followed by two walks and a passed ball to put runners on second and third. A ground out to Oldenkamp at pitcher would get out number two and then a groundout to Sweeter at second ended the game. Lennox had won their second game of the season at a score of three to two.
The Orioles looked at a positive point with great defense and only one error. The Orioles were out hit five to four but in the end it was the clutch hitting and base running that the Orioles used to win.
