Orioles Errors and Offense Deny them of a Win
The Orioles were coming off of a huge loss to West Central and now they had to focus in beating another very good team from Dakota Valley. Dakota Valley threw Sophomore Luke Schmitt to pitch against Lennox’s Senior Grant Sweeter. Sweeter was coming off of a bad start vs Tea when he allowed six runs in two innings of pitching.
In the first, two singles were bring in one run for Dakota Valley and Lennox coming to bat. After two strikeouts, Leisinger, Hood and Sweeter all earned walks to load the bases for Devon Jongeling. Jongeling would end up striking out to end the huge threat and opportunity for the Orioles. In the top of the second, two errors would lead to having runners on first and second, however the defense worked around it and allowed no one to score. In the Orioles half of the inning, three strikeouts put Lennox down in order and sent it to the third. For Dakota Valley, three singles and an error led to Dakota Valley adding to more runs and a three to zero lead. Into the bottom of the third, Leisinger’s walk led to nothing as the Orioles would strikeout three times around his walk. In the top of the fourth, the Orioles hit a wall allowing four singles, one walk and one hit by pitch along with two errors that started the inning and that scored seven runs. Levi Buckneberg came into pitch and got a ground out which scored another run and the inning would end up with eight runs and an eleven to zero lead for Dakota Valley.
In the bottom of the fourth, two ground outs and a strikeout ended the inning with no fight from the Orioles. In the top of the fifth, a single and a walk would lead to no one scoring and the Orioles coming to bat. In the bottom of the fifth, the Orioles needed to score two runs to keep the game alive. However, Kayl, Van Ningen and Lackas all struck out to end the game.
The Orioles ended up with seven errors and zero hits. The Panthers of Dakota Valley had zero errors and ten hits in a solid performance for them. The Orioles proved for the first three innings that they could hang with Dakota Valley, however with all the errors and no hits, Lennox could not have won that game. In the end, they battled with a lot of struggle.
