Lennox Varsity’s Comeback Ends up Short in Region 3 East Battle
On Wednesday May 6th, the Lennox Orioles hosted the Canton C-Hawks in a Region 3 East battle. The Orioles had already beaten Canton at a score of ten to eight, and now Sophomore Braedon Wallenstein was given the opportunity to throw against the C-Hawks. He would face Senior from Canton, Alex Dejong.
In the top of the first inning, two walks, a strikeout and a picked off runner led to Canton scoring zero. In the home half of the first, Lackas walked and Oldenkamp grounded out to short and moved Lackas to third. Then Leisinger walked and Hood grounded out. A passed ball score Lackas and gave Lennox a one to zero lead. Sweeter would walk and put runners on first and second. Raysby’s fielder’s choice ended the inning. In the top of the second, a fly out, a walk, a ground out and a picked off runner led to Canton scoring zero. In the bottom of the second, two strikeouts, a single and a man caught stealing ended the inning with no runs. In the top of the third, three singles, a walk and an error scored three Canton runs and made the score three to one Canton. In the bottom of the third, Oldenkamp reaching by fielder’s choice and then stealing second and third led to an error on the third baseman and scored Oldenkamp to make it three to two Canton. In the top of the fourth, three singles led to Canton scoring two more runs and taking a five to two lead. To speed up, Lennox had no one score in the fourth, fifth, or sixth and Canton scored nothing in the fifth, sixth or seventh. Now in the bottom of the seventh, Lennox was trailing five to two and they had the nine, one and two hitters due up. Senior Derrick Van Ningen would get his first hit of the season to start it off with a double. Then Jacob Lackas found a hole down the right field line and he tripled in Van Ningen to make it five to three. Oldenkamp would ground out and Leisinger would single to center to score Lackas. Hood worked a ground ball that led to an error on Canton. Sweeter would come up and work a six pitch at bat and strike out but a passed ball moved runners to second and third. Ander Peterson came into pitch and he allowed a ground out to the short stop to end the game. The Orioles comeback was short and they lost five to four.
Canton earned their first win and Lennox earned their tenth loss of the season. Lennox showed some great signs in the seventh inning by scoring two runs to make it close. They also had showed good defense and great pitching to end with a great close game. Lennox and Canton both played a very good ball game and they both earned a win.
