Orioles Offense carries them to Victory

In baseball, there are three main keys. Those keys include throwing the ball, hitting the ball and catching the ball. These keys relate to the three areas on the field which are pitching, offense and defense. If a team struggles in two of those categories, one could argue in which that team didn’t play well. The Orioles on Monday night struggled in two of those areas but due to a superb offensive effort, the Orioles hung in to play a good game.

On Monday night, Lennox hosted Canton and Canton was going to pitch Alex Dejong against Lennox’s John Oldenkamp. The top of the first was nice for Canton as they pushed across two runs on three walks, a fielder’s choice and an error. In the bottom of the first, Lackas would double to left field to start the game and Leisinger would walk right after him. When Lackas stole third, the catcher’s throw went into left field scoring Lackas. That was all Lennox would do and it was 2 to 1 Canton after the first.

The top of the second was easy and fast bringing up the Orioles again. Wallenstein would single to short and Ludens would walk with one out. Leisinger was hit by pitch to load the bases now with two outs. Oldenkamp came up and ripped a single to left to score Wallenstein and Ludens and make it 3 to 2 Lennox. The next pitch to Hinker was driven to deep left field but caught on the warning track to end the inning.

The top of the third was easy for Lennox as Canton didn’t threaten or score. Lennox would get a runner on but bad base running led to no runs scoring and a 3 to 2 score after 3 innings. In the top of the fourth, Canton scored 6 runs on 4 errors, one walk, and two hits. That brought Nick Kayl into pitch and he struck out Canton’s Caleb Elling to end the 4th. In the bottom of the 4th, Wallenstein and Ludens would walk and after a ground out put runners on second and third. Then back to back singles from Leisinger and Oldenkamp scored Wallenstein and then Ludens to make it 8 to 5 Canton. With the bases loaded, Kayl and Jongeling would earn RBI walks to make it 8 to 7 Canton. Wallenstein went down on strikes to end the big threat.

In the top of the fifth, Canton had a hit, a groundout and two strikeouts to easily end the inning for Kayl and the Orioles. Ludens and Lackas walked to lead off the bottom of the fifth followed by Leisinger sending a deep line drive to center to score two and be a triple. That’s when Oldenkamp hit a sac fly to left to score Leisinger and make it 10 to 8 Lennox. In the top of the sixth, three walks, a passed ball and a fielder’s choice led to Canton tying it up at 10. Lennox was held scoreless in the sixth. In the seventh, Canton would take advantage of a Lennox error, some walks and a hit to score 4 and take a 14 to 10 lead. Lennox was not going away easily though. The Orioles went to work as Oldenkamp doubled to left and then Hinker and Stien both reached on hit by pitches. Nick Kayl came up and ripped a triple to deep left center to score three and make it 14 to 13 Canton. After Jongeling flew out to short, Wallenstein hit a RBI single to right center to make it 14 to 14. While trying to steal second, Luke hit a ground out making Wallenstein safe at second. A passed ball sent Wallenstein to third and then Lackas hit a walk off single to center to win 15 to 14.

Lennox’s pitching and defense had struggled but their offense carried the team as they performed to a superb excellence. The Orioles could thank Lackas and Oldenkamp who both had three hits. Oldenkamp also had 4 RBI’s and Lackas had one. Wallenstein, Leisinger, and Kayl all had two hits while Leisinger had three RBI’s, Wallenstein had one and Kayl had four. The Orioles offense showed huge signs of improvement as they marched into a good looking win over Canton. This is the first 3 win and 0 loss season since 2008 for the Orioles baseball team. The Orioles next action in Wednesday night the 13th at Tea Area. This should be quite a fun game to watch. So come on out and support the Orioles. Plus the weather is going to cooperate and be beautiful out.

Thanks for reading, have a nice day and GOOOOO Orioles!
