Orioles Pitching Struggles Drags them down in Loss to WC

The Orioles were coming off of two wins this week one of which they played quite awful but still won. Well on April 14th, the Orioles prepared for WC who is a very good opponent with plenty of talent and capability for success. The Trojans pitched Blake Svoboda vs the Orioles pitcher Braedon Wallenstein.

The top of the first was almost a disaster for Lennox as WC loaded the bases, but Wallenstein got the fly out to McEntee in right to end the inning. The Orioles went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the first. The top of the second was easy as Wallenstein got two strikeouts and a groundout to avoid any damage. In the bottom of the second, Hinker’s hit by pitch and Stein’s reach on error lead to runners on second and third with two outs. Then Devon Jongeling came up and worked a long at bat and singled up the middle bringing in Hinker and almost bringing in Luke but a good throw got Luke out at home. In the top of the 3rd, 3 errors, two walks and two hit batters brought in 6 runs for WC and also brought Nick Kayl into pitch. Lennox would battle in the bottom of the third as Ludens would double and Lackas would triple to make it 6 to 2. After Leisinger’s fly out, Oldenkamp ripped a single to score Lackas and make it 6 to 3. However, WC scored 7 runs in the 4th on four hits, three walks and two hit batters. This brought Quincy Ihnen into pitch. With Lennox now down 13 to 3, they needed to score runs but came up empty as Stien’s strike out, Ihnen’s strikeout, Jongeling’s walk and Ludens’ strikeout. The top of the fifth went quick for Ihnen as he got a ground out, a walk and then a double play due to runner’s interference at second. The Orioles needed one to keep the game alive but they didn’t achieve this as Steever struck out, Peters reached on error, McLaren lined out to center and Hinker flew out to center to end the inning and the game via the ten run mercy rule.

The Orioles fell to a 4 win and 1 loss record which still ties the best start in Lennox high school baseball history as the 2008 team also started with 4 wins and 1 loss. The Orioles still had good hitting performances from Lackas, Oldenkamp, Ludens and Jongeling.

The Orioles next game is Friday, April 22nd in Garretson at 6:00. The Orioles will prepare to face off against the team that they are tied with for the Region 3 East leader. Both teams have 4 wins and 1 loss in which both teams losses are ten run mercy rule losses. This is going to be a great game between two good teams. Plus the weather is going to be nice as game time prediction is 70 degrees. So come on up to Garretson to see a great region rival game!

Thanks for reading, have a nice day and GOOOOO Orioles!
