Orioles Prepare for Big Matchup vs Top Region Team

It has been awhile since the Orioles were known as a strong and top region team. However, this year’s team has been playing well all around. The defense has been good, with a strong offense and strong pitching staff. However, they have a big matchup vs Garretson on Friday.

To truly understand the size and magnitude of the game vs Garretson, one would want to look back at the past few years. Lennox has not faired very well against Garretson in the last few years. Over the past five seasons, Lennox has beaten Garretson only once and they have fallen four times. Now this isn’t too bad of a situation but it has been pretty heavily dominated in the past few seasons. This year, Garretson will have to play Lennox twice because they are now in the same sub region. That began last season when the Region 3 East sub region lost Harrisburg so Garretson joined our sub region.

Looking at who and what Garretson has this year could be a help to understanding what the Orioles are up against. From last season’s game in Lennox, Garretson has 7 returning starters. Of those starters, there are some top players such as Sean Tillma, Brady Schleuter and Micah Mader. Tillma and Schleuter both hit well as combined they had 4 RBI’s and 5 hits in one of last season’s game. Mader is one of the team’s better pitchers. Having other returning starters back, means that Garretson could have a pretty nice season.

However, the Orioles are looking at one of the best teams they have had in a while. So this means that the Orioles why have a very good fight for the top spot in Region 3 east. Both of these teams roll in at 4 win and 1 loss meaning that the winner will be 5 and 1 and be the top team in Region 3 East. Many people would argue that we are only half way through the season so leading the Region isn’t that important. However, it is always nice to grab the top spot early and hang on to it.  The last four years, the top seed in the region tournament was grabbed early as in the first 6 games. With this being known, grabbing the top seed is very important.

So if you’re not busy, come on out to Garretson on Friday, April 22nd at 6:00 to see what should be a very good game. The weather is supposed to be very beautiful as the suspected game time temperature is 65 degrees. However, if you are busy, follow LHSMensBaseball on twitter or Grant Sweeter on Facebook. Both of those accounts will have live updates during the games for both varsity and JV. So come on out and see some good baseball in some beautiful weather.

Thanks for reading, have a nice day and GOOOOOOO Orioles!
