Orioles Struggling Defense Begins Downhill Slide

In baseball, you need to be able to throw the ball, catch the ball, and hit the ball. If one cannot do one of these three things, then that person could struggle. Lately, the Orioles defense has had trouble with the throwing and catching part. The Orioles defense has fallen back to back games with a total of 9 errors between the two games. In the first four game winning streak, Lennox had 13 total errors which is on the bad side, but the offense was playing good enough. However, on the current three game losing streak, Lennox has had 13 errors. On the win streak, they averaged 3 per game and now they are average 4.25 errors per game on the losing streak. Let’s look a little closer.

The Orioles started Braedon Wallenstein vs Garretson and Garretson decided to go with Micah Mader as the pitcher. Lennox put 3 runs up early however a bad 4th inning led to Garretson taking a 4 to 3 lead. In that inning, only one of the three Garretson runs were earned. In the 6th, Lennox got McLaren all the way to 3rd base, however McEntee would go down swinging to end the inning and the Orioles threat. The Orioles went three up and three down in the 7th and the Orioles fell 4-3 to Garretson.

The next loss was to McCook Central Montrose. The Orioles started John Oldenkamp who would struggle, but due to a back injury, he would leave the game after two innings. Brock Anderson came in and with some nice hitting from McCook and a couple walks, the Cougars of McCook put up 5 runs in the second and took a 7-1 lead. The Orioles only run came after Hinker’s triple and Kayl’s single. Stein grounded into a RBI fielder’s choice. In the 4th, Lennox added another after Hinker’s single to center and Kayl’s single to left. Then Jongeling singled in the infield to put runners and the corner trailing 7 to 2. However the runners were left there. Anderson allowed another run in the 5th and the Orioles threatened hard in the 7th, but the Orioles fell 8 to 2.

The Orioles fell to 4 wins and 3 losses as they are now the 3rd seeded team in Region 3 East. The Orioles have plenty of games to climb back to first, but some work is needed. They also could use some large crowds so make your way to our next game. The next game in Wednesday, April 27th in Renner vs SFC at 5:30. This is a big Region 3 East Rival game. So make you way to Renner on Wednesday for some good baseball.

Thanks for reading, have a nice day and GOOOOOO Orioles!
