LHS Baseball Cruises to Opening Day Victory
Posted March 30, 2017
The LHS Baseball team picked an opening day win over Region 3 South rival Garretson at a score of 11 to 1.
It was an easy top of the first as sophomore Brock Anderson struck out all three batters. However, the Oriole offense sturggled to get going in the early innings. After Stien's one out walk, a caught stealing and a strikeout would end the 1st. Lennox picked up singles from sophomore Zach Leisinger and senior Braedon Wallenstien while picking up a double in the 3rd from senior Brock Stien. However, none of those runners were brought in. Defensively, Lennox allowed a single from Nick Lundberg to give Garretson a 1-0 lead after 2. Garretson would get a man on in the 3rd but nobody scored for them in the 3rd or 4th.
In the bottom of the fourth, Zach Leisinger and Brock Anderson walked. A passed ball advanced them and then Braedon Wallenstien delivered a two run batted in single to give Lennox a 2-1 lead after 4. In the fifth, a single from Brock Anderson, a double from Marshall McLaren, 2 walks, one hit by pitch and a Garretson error led to Lennox scoring 6 runs to lead 8 to 1. After holding Garretson to zero in the top of 6th, Lennox got runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out after a Garretson error and Wallenstein's walk. Camden Wulf (sophomore) would reach on an infield single to score one and make it 9 to 1. Sophomore Zach Foss would reach on an error which scored Braedon Wallenstein. The Orioles picked up their eleventh run when Ray Williams flew out to right to score Wulf. Lennox had won via the ten run mercy rule.
The Orioles played a fundamentally solid game. They had zero errors and gave up only one run. Offensively, Lennox scored 11 runs on eight hits and eight walks. Brock Anderson threw all six innings giving up four hits, one walk and striking out 13.
Lennox will play at Colton vs Tri-Valley at 5:30 on Thursday. So come on out as Lennox battles another Region 3 rival.
Thanks for reading, have a nice day and GOOOOOO Orioles.
