Lennox has Amazing Week defeating 3 Ranked Teams

Posted April 11, 2017

Lennox came into last week knowing the high challenge that was ahead of them. Last week's schedule consisted of three games in five days playing against three ranked opponents.

Lennox was picked as the 3rd ranked team in the state on Sunday the 2nd but the rankings also told them that on the 4th of April they would play 4th ranked Sioux Falls Christian. It also said that on the 7th of April they would face 5th ranked West Central and on the 8th they got 6th ranked Tea Area. It was going to be an extremely tough week which could diplay the mental and physical toughness of Lennox.

Lennox first faced Sioux Falls Christian on Tuesday the 4th and Lennox's defense led them again. Sophomore pitcher Brock Anderson had an impressive game as he went 5.1 innings allowing zero runs on five hits while striking out seven. That brought his total strikeouts to twenty on the season which is the 4th best in the state. The defense did their job behind Anderson as the defense had zero errors not giving SFC any free bases. Lennox took advantage of seven SFC errors to lead to four runs but late in the game, sophomore Ray Williams delivered a two RBI triple that opened up the Oriole lead to 6 to 0. Lennox's defense would hold as senior Braedon Wallenstein came in to close the game and give Lennox a 6-0 win.

The Lennox Orioles then traveled to face the 5th ranked team West Central on Friday the 7th. Lennox got great pitching from senior Braedon Wallenstein who allowed one run on one hit and striking out three. Lennox trailed 2-0 heading to the last inning. 3 walks, a single from both Quincy Ihnen and Brock Anderson and a two RBI double from sophomore Tyson Stoebner gave Lennox a four run comeback to take a 4-2 lead. Ihnen pitched to earn two groudouts and a line out to seal the 4-2 win for Lennox.

Finally, Lennox battled versus rival Tea Area on Saturday the 8th. Lennox's defense was its story again as Lennox allowed zero runs on three hits while commiting zero errors. The story of the game was two sophomores who had great performances. One was Zach Foss who was 3 for 3 with three singles, one RBI and one walk. The other outstanding performance was from Camden Wulf. Wulf came in the 4th inning and he pitched four innings giving up zero runs on one hit while striking out two. Lennox's 2-0 lead was largely increased in the top of the 6th inning as Lennox added 5 runs via one hit by pitch, five singles and a double. Lennox had put a lot of good insurance runs up to seal the 7-0 win over Tea.

It was a tough week for Lennox as they faced three ranked teams but it forced them to play three great games and they did. The defense has been Lennox's strong suit as they have outscored opponents 44 to 4 on the season. Lennox now has two players with high quality stats. Senior Marshall McLaren is the 4th ranked hitter for RBI leaders in the state while Sophomore Brock Anderson is in fourth place in strikeouts as a pitcher. Lennox's future schedule for this week is low. Lennox's only game this week is versus the Parker Dirt Dogs on Wednesday in Lennox at 6:00. Varsity will play first with JV to follow.

Thank you for reading, have a nice day and GOOOOOOOOOO Orioles!
