LHS Baseball Complete's Comeback for School Record
Posted April 30, 2017
One swing of the bat can win a baseball game and Lennox put together some timely swings of the bat on their way to a 6 run comeback win.
Lennox traveled to Renner to battle their big District 3 rival Sioux Falls Christian on Saturday the 29th. This game was to be a big game between two of the top pitchers in class B. Spencer Koelewyn the starting pitcher for SFC is most likely the top pitcher in Class B and on Saturday he proved it. He pitched 6 innings allowing 0 runs on 2 hits while striking out 16 of 18 possible outs. However, Lennox worked his pitch count while battling for a lot of foul tips and full counts to work Koelewyn over his pitch count making him throw 95 pitches in six innings.
Lennox took advantage of the pitching change. Trailing 5-0 in the top of the 7th, Senior Marshall McLaren came up looking to start a rally and with one swing of the bat, he changed the game. McLaren doubled to center with a 3-1 count.

Three pitches later Quincy Ihnen singled and then Braedon Wallenstein singled. Now down 5-1, Brock Stien and Zach Foss got back to back walks to score again and make it 5-2. Tyson Stoebner singled to left and Camden Wulf grounded into a fielder's choice. It was now 5-3 with 1 out. That's when Sophomore Zach Leisinger had a game changing swing of the bat doubling in two runs on a ground ball down the third base line.

However, Wulf was tagged out at third and then Anderson stuck out meaning the rally had ended, for now.
In the bottom of the 7th, Wallenstein struck out the side on 13 pitches.

After a lead off single from Marshall McLaren, Ihnen would do a sacrifice bunt and Stien would deliver an RBI double (Stien's RBI Double)-(Click Link to see double- Courtesy of Midco Sports Network's Jason Andera) to give Lennox their first lead at a score of 6-5. In the bottom of the 8th, SFC earned two runners on but couldn't score anyone giving Lennox the 6-5 comeback win.
Lennox showed their adversity sticking to thier game plan so in the 7th inning it could all come together. Wallenstein earned the win for Lennox going 4.1 innings giving up 0 runs on 3 hits while striking out 11 of a total 13 outs. Brock Anderson threw 3.2 innings allowing 3 earned runs on 7 hits while striking out 7. This was a high scoring pitcher's duel as both teams struck out each other 18 times.
With this win, the 2017 LHS Oriole baseball team extends the record of best start to a season. Many teams have been successful throwing it back to the early 2000's when the LHS team was 14 and 1 going into the State Tournament. However, they did not start 10 and 0 like this seasons team.
Lennox will travel to Canton on Wednesday to play another District 3 game. That game will start a run of 4 games in 6 days for Lennox facing two district opponents and two region opponents.
