After winning game one on Tuesday the Cologne Hollanders were looking to wrap up the series with St Boni by winning game two. The Hollanders had their work cut out for them as Boni started their veteran pitcher Tony Wichnak. Wichnak set the Hollanders down in the top of the first. After having success against Boni earlier in the season, Alex Eichner started on the mound for Cologne. But Boni was able to grab a three run lead in the first by scoring three unearned runs. Unfortunately that's all the Saints would need on the night. Eichner would throw well for 7-2/3 innings giving up 6 runs (3 unearned in the first). Normally the Hollanders bats would have made up for those runs, but the Saints' starter kept the Hollanders from putting up any big numbers. Several times throughout the game Cologne would have several guys on and looking to threaten Boni's lead, but good pitching and good defense thwarted those chances. Cologne only managed five hits on the night and only one run.
The 6-1 loss in game two now ties the series at one game a piece. The third and deciding game will be played Sunday afternoon in Cologne. First pitch is scheduled at 2:00pm. It's do or die for the 2018 season and no one is ready for it to be over. Come out to Cologne's Glad Days this weekend and watch a baseball game to finish it all off.
Ga Hollanderes!
