Hollanders walk-off Green Isle
The Hollanders fell behind in the top half of the 1st on a solo homerun by Luke Luskey of Green Isle. The boys immediately struck back in the bottom half of the inning. Joey Lilya led off getting hit by a pitch followed by a Melvin Maldonado single and Carter Clemensen bunt single. Lilya would come across to score on a wild pitch. Max Wiegert hit a sac fly to plate another run and Casey Clemensen contributed an RBI groundout to give the Hollanders a 3-1 lead.
In the bottom of the 2nd, Zack Nelson led off with a walk followed by a Lilya single. Carter Clemensen hit a single to drive in Nelson and expand the lead to 4-1.
In the top of the 4th, Luskey hit his second opposite field homerun to pull GI within 2. However, the boys in orange struck back in the bottom half of the inning. Lilya and Maldonado singled and Carter Clemensen put down his second bunt single of the night with Lilya coming across to score on a wild throw. Casey Clemensen then delivered a big 2 RBI double to extend the lead to 7-2.
Ben Schefers pitched 5 strong innings allowing only 2 runs. He gave way to Hollander newcomer Graham Burke. An error and a few hard hit balls allowed GI to score 3 runs to pull within 2. After settling in, Graham threw very well in his first townball game with the squad.
There was no action again until the 8th. Another Hollander rookie, David Sofelt, made his debut. A pop-up to the infield got lost in the sky and got the inning started for GI. They would ultimately score 2 runs to tie the game at 7. Sofelt looked solid as well in his debut.
In the bottom of the 9th, Casey Clemensen roped a one out single. Kyle Twait came on to pinch run and stole second. With two outs, Tim "Bomber" Swanson came to the plate. He fell behind early in the count but battled hard, fouling off 7 balls before hitting a single down the right field line for an 8-7 Hollander victory!
Great TEAM effort once again! Everybody has been ready when their number gets called into action.
Up next, we head to Soule Field in Mound to take on the Westonka Waves at 2:00p.m. this Sunday. #gähollanders
