Mother's Day Matinee

The Hollanders started the scoring in the 3rd inning. Tanner Luekbe roped a ball to the centerfielder but it popped out of his glove. Tanner was able to move up to 2nd on the play and ended up stealing 3rd a few pitches later. Casey Clemensen hit a sacrifice fly to bring across the first run of the game. Winsted struck back in the top of the 4th on an RBI double by Garrett Schultz to score Aiden Debner.

The tie game didn’t last long. Brandon Fritz led off the bottom of the 5th with a single down the left field line. He rounded 1st hard to draw a throw to second from the left fielder. The ball skipped by the 2nd basemen and Fritz advanced to 3rd on the play. Youngster Andrew Eggers followed up with a sharply hit single to left field to score Fritz. The ball ended up getting past the outfielder and Eggers strolled into 2nd base. Luekbe squared up on another ball, this time hitting it off the top of the top of the fence in left field for an RBI double, narrowly missing a homerun by a foot. Carter Clemensen joined in on the fun with an RBI double of his own to give the Hollanders a 4-1 lead after 5 innings.

Winsted scored again in the top of the 8th to make it 4-2. Cologne tacked on one more the bottom half of the inning. Zack Nelson hit a two out single and stole 2nd. Tim Swanson roped a liner to the shortstop and it ended up getting thrown away, allowing Nelson to score.

Casey Clemensen started on the mound. He tossed 5 great innings, scattering only 3 hits. Nelson tossed 2 solid innings in relief and Luebke came in to shut the door in the 9th.
