Coming in hot with a delayed post.

Here are the game updates against Green Isle on Sunday.

Game 1: Both starting pitchers were in a groove the majority of the game. With one out in the top of the 6th, Green Isle had a batter reach on an error. Pinch hitter Luke Luskey hit a 2-run homer in the next at bat to give GI a 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the 9th, Carter Clemensen led off the inning with a double. Ben Schefers followed that up with a walk and David Solfelt put down a sacrifice bunt to put the tying run on second. Clemensen would come across to score on an infield groundout by Tim Swanson but we couldn’t come up with one last clutch hit to score Schefers from 3rd. Green Isle claimed a 2-1 victory.

David Solfelt threw very well again. He tossed a complete game and kept us in it, giving us every opportunity to try and overcome GI.

Game 2: Tanner Luebke drew a leadoff walk to start the game and ended up stealing second. Carter Clemensen followed up with a single to move Luebke up to third. Clemensen would end up stealing second and the ball got away from the infielder to allow Luebke to come across to score.

In the top of the 2nd, Zack Nelson and Brandon Fritz drew back to back 2 out walks. Nelson moved up to 3rd on a pitch in the dirt and would come across to score on a Luebke infield single making it 2-0.

That was all the scoring until the 8th. Walt Johnson hit a 1 out single for GI and ended up stealing second. The Irish hit a 2 out infield single and Johnson never stopped running to come around and score making it 2-1.

The bottom of the 9th had us on the edge of our seats. The Irish started their half of the inning with a leadoff infield single and a walk. Luebke then came on in relief for the Hollanders to try and seal the victory. With no outs and two runners on, the Irish attempted a sac bunt but it was popped up to Luebke. The runner on second got too far off the base and Luebke fired a strike to Clemensen for the double play. The Irish drew one more walk but Luebke induced a grounder to Andrew Eggers at third to end the game.

Ben Schefers threw a very strong 7-2/3 innings with 6 strikeouts, 4 walks, and 6 hits allowed.
