What a Game Opener!

Riviera Beach Heatwave opened their first game of their Inaugural Season at home with a tough loss to the Orlando Splash. In the First Quarter, both team battled it out to gain an advantage, showing they have the range to drain that 3-point shot. The Heatwave made 5 out of 7 from the three-point line with shooting guard Megan Whittaker making 2 out of 3 three-point shots in the first quarter ending 28-30 for the Orlando Splash. Tough offensive play from Sharneka McCathy kept the Heatwave going but turnovers and missed shots opened the deficit at the half ending in 38-46. The third quarter opened with McCathy displaying her range hitting the 3-point shot and aggressively rebounding. Point Guard, Katherin Johnson, dug deep to keep the team together and attacked the basket. The Heatwave defense picked up trying to erase the 8-point deficit as Guards, Tamia Williams and Katie Piekieski, defended the basket with two pivotal blocks each. In the fourth quarter with the Heatwave creeping up 72-77, Williams and McCathy went on the run. McCathy ended the game with 19 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Williams ended with 14 points, 3 rebounds, and 5 assists. Williams fouled out through strategic fouls to gain the Heatwave the ball in the final possession, however, Orlando Splash's defense closed out the game at 75-77.
