2007 -- P.G. Senior Baseball League announces all-stars, award winners
Aug. 28, 2007
The P.G. Senior Baseball League, a 10-team circuit that plays most of its games at Citizen Field, has announced all-stars and award winners for the 2007 season.
Still to be awarded are top hitter, top pitcher and MVP awards for the playoffs. The best-of-five final series starts Tuesday, 6:30 p.m., at Citizen Field, with the Westwood Sports Pub Royals facing the Shallard and Shallard Tigers.
The MVP is Royals catcher Bucky Schmidt, whose power hitting from the left side of the plate keyed the offence of the first-place team all season – every one of his 26 hits seemed to come at a key moment in the game. The naming of Schmidt ends a two-year MVP reign of Adam Norn of the Shallard and Shallard Tigers, who was named to the all-star team and shared the home run award with Evan Potskin of the Treasure Cove Pirates.
The Royals have three players on the all-star team, including first baseman Paul Wilson, outfielder Chris Chapman and right-handed pitcher Jason Cage. The Predators, who finished fourth, placed three players in third baseman Chad Craig, outfielder Derek Knight and left-handed pitcher Connor Flynn. The rookie-of-the-year is Phil Jones of the expansion Treasure Cove Pirates.
