Posted Aug 22/12 - Williams Has Successful Surgery!

The Spurs are proud to report that Max Williams is doing well recuperating from his usccessful surgery to repair the damage to his orbital bone at Children's Hospital last week. The doctors are expecting a full recovery and please to report that there were no damage to his eye. While Max will have to take it easy for the next six weeks,  the prognostic is that he will be has good looking as ever and will be able to resume his baseball career in time for next season.

While the both Spurs Teams were eliminated at the Provincials, five Spurs players were picked up to go to Westerns and Nationals Championships.

After a very succesful Fall Ball season last year that saw 4 teams compete in numerous tournaments and the Cloverdale World Series, the Spurs are unlikely to field any teams this year as the city needs to redo the Bantam Diamond for the 2013 Season.  Unless players are allowed to use BMX's it's very unlikely that their will be Bantam Fall Ball in Cloverdale.

Posted Jul 29/12 - Spurs Black Clinch First Place Against Angels

With a 13-3 win against the Abbotsford Angels on the last day of the season, the Spurs Black clinched 1st Place in the Bantam AAA League.  The victory gives the Spurs Black the 1st Place seed in the Bantam AAA Provincials starting on thursday at Blundell Park in Richmond. The Cloverdale Spurs Red will open the tournament against the same Abbotsford Angels at 10AM on Thursday while the Spurs Black will open their Provincials 15 minutes later against the Victoria Black Eagles.

Facing the powerhouse Cincinnati Flames in their last round robin game of the tournament, the Spurs needed a win to advance to the final 16. Unfortunately, with the game scoreless in the 4th, a dazzling midwest lightning storm hit Notre Dame and the game had to be cancelled. As per tournament rules, the first 3 games would determine final seeding.

Posted Jul 8/12 - Spurs Red Making Play for A Spot in the Provincials

After opening the season with a 5-13 record, the expension Spurs Red have gone 18-8 and are now making a strong push to earn a spot in the Provincial Championships in Richmond. With an impressive 3 wins on their crucial Island trip this past weekend, the young squad has moved up to 9th place in the standings and is starting to make believers of all Cloverdale fans. Their offence has been on a tear, scoring a whopping 48 runs on the Island trip.

Posted Jul 8/12 - Spurs Red VS Mounties Game Must Be Completed

After an appeal process that went all the way to the full BC Minor Board, the board decided that the June 12 game between the Mounties and Spurs Red must be completed from the time of the Mounties' protest. In a complicated decision because the game was called for darkness at the same time of the protest which should have made the score revert back to the previous inning as per rule 18:05, which Jackie Chiles argued would make the protest null and void anyways. However, the BC Minor Supreme Court decided otherwise but with the caveat that the game would be restarted at the same time the incident occured which was 9:00PM.

For a bunch of poor West Coast boys who just spent the past month playing in weather conditions reminescent of February,  the Spurs are in for a rude awakening when they hit the field at Notre Dame on Wednesday. With the Midwest facing some extreme weather conditions, the boys will have to learn to deal with the Great Lakes Region's heat and humidity.

After suffering a crushing 9-2 loss to the Abbotsford Angels in their last game of the round robbin, the Black Spurs would have to play these same Angels in the Final of the Cloverdale Cup. This would be a tough task as they were undermanned and would have to win their first game of the season against the Mighty Angels.

The Red Spurs win over the Vancouver Mounties was upheld by BC Minor as Jackie Chiles was spectacular in his first case as legal counsel for the Spurs... Jackie will likely have to attend the Provincials in Richmond if both Spurs Teams reach their goal of making the Provincials. The Black Spurs have already qualified for the big Showdown.

On the first truly fabulous weekend of the season, American and Canadiian teams brought their bats to Hillcrest Park to battle in the First Annual Cloverdale CanAM Cup. Mercer Island defeated Narrows 15 by a score of 10 to 6 in a very exciting U 15 Final.  Narrows 16 had earlier prevailed over the Seattle Bombers White to capture the U16 cup.

In a Hockey Pool almost as memorable as the Canucks' run to the Stanley Cup Final, former Bantam AAA Coach Rob Steele battled to the last game to secure the $500 Grand Prize. While most Vancouver fans depise Brad Marchand, Rob became his biggest fan has he recordeed 3 points in the final game to secure his victory. No word yet on how Rob intends to spend his winnings, but investment in Molson stock would be a sound investment for the rest of us...
