Posted May 31/12 - Mounties Following The Letter of the Law...

In a wild and wacky game on a rainy wednesday  night, the Spurs rallied and turned  a 7-1 deficit into an 8-7 lead only to see their arch rival Mounties tie the game up on a wet and wild  wild pitch in the bottom of the 5th. The game was then stopped with the count 3-1 on the Spurs first batter in the 6th inning.

At the time, both teams indicated they would like to finish the game but according to BC Minor Rule

2) Completion of Games (See Rule 18) All games are to be played to completion, playing as many extra innings as required to break the tie (ie. Games are not called a tie after 8 innings).

Tie games will only be counted when a game is called by the umpire due to darkness, rain or park curfew*.

However BC Minor Chair, Judge Ray Wearing, agreed for the game to be completed in the best interest of the game as per his ruling:

If the teams wish to complete the game and agree to, then as division chair can allow that to happen. If there is not agreement then the rules will be applied.

I don't see any flaunting if both teams are in agreement.

Unfortunately the Mounties decided to stick with the tie game as finishing the game would "clearly be against the rules that were set out at the start of the season" according to Senior Officer Pawlick.

Streching the rules as never been considered a major crime for the Mounties in the past so  The Spurs can now only speculate as to the real reasons behind this decision...
