Following a weekend where they won 7 of 8 games last week, both Spurs Teams headed to the USA this past weekend and Rocked their American counterparts by winning 7 of 8 games once again.
The Spurs Red travelled to Yakima to compete in the TSF Challenge at Kiwanis Park. Nursing numerous injuries, the Red squad was graciously allowed to compete in the U13 diviison which has the same field dimension as Bantam AAA. The young Spurs went undefeated winning the final 6-2 against the local favorites Yakima Dirt Dawgs.
Congratulations to the Spurs Red on a very successfull weekend and for bringing home the first Spurs championship of the season!
The Black Spurs also headed south to compete in the Diamond Sports Invitational in Kent Washington in the U15 bracket which featured some of the best teams in the Northwest. After some torrential downpours wrecked havoc on the tournament schedule, tournament organizers scrapped the playoffs round and reschedule 4 games for each competing teams.
The Spurs Black were not intimidated by their American cousins and quickly learn to master BBCOR bats as they went 3-1. They suffered their only lost to a tough Narrow squad by only one run after they mounted a ferocious 6 run comeback in their last at bat. The highlight of the weekend came in their last game when the Spurs defeated the Host Kent Bulldogs one of the most successful program in the Seattle area by a score of 9-8.
While we will never know if the Black Spurs could have gone all the way, the weekend was a great challenge and playing at the fabulous Auburn Mountainview High School home turf was a fantastic experience .
Great Job Spurs!
