Facing the powerhouse Cincinnati Flames in their last round robin game of the tournament, the Spurs needed a win to advance to the final 16. Unfortunately, with the game scoreless in the 4th, a dazzling midwest lightning storm hit Notre Dame and the game had to be cancelled. As per tournament rules, the first 3 games would determine final seeding.
The Spurs only lost would prove costly as it would now give the edge to the Bridgeport Bombers in pool play. In spite of only allowing 1 run to two top 9 teams in the tournament,, the Spurs are now eliminated from the playoffs round. However, tournament organizers were kind enough to give the Spurs one extra game against Grand Rapids before heading home.
While the Spurs are disappointed that the tournament could not be completed as planned, the trip has been a great experience and has shown the team that it can compete with some of the best teams in the US.
