The Pembina Valley Orioles opened the 2011 regular season with an 8-7 loss to the Altona Bisons on Sunday afternoon. After jumping out to 3-0 and 7-2 leads, the Orioles fell victim to timely errors, resulting in a Bison comeback.
Bret Heselwood started for the Orioles, followed by Bryan Evans. Offensively, the Orioles were led by Riley Penner, who went 3 for 4 with a double.
Head Coach Brent Laverty thought the Orioles played well and have nothing to worry about after a loss; "I thought we played really well for the first game, considering we didn't have any practice beforehand. We had one bad inning, and had tons of hits and left guys on base."
The Orioles head to Elmwood on Wednesday, May 11 for a matchup against the Giants. Game time is 7:00.
