The Russell County Laker Baseball won the 2012 16th District Championship in Edmonton, KY. In the semi final match up with Metcalfe County, the Lakers bested the Hornets by the score of 11-0, behind an impressive performance from Junior pitcher Tyler Robertson. The bats for the Lakers were equally impressive, pounding out 10 hits in the 5 inning contest.

   The following evening the Lakers were crowned 2012 District Champions by defeating the Cumberland County Panthers 11-1. Another strong performance on the mound came from Senior Caleb "Bonky" Russell. In 4 innings , Russell allowed 2 hits and the only run was unearned. Again, the Laker bats were up to the task scoring 6 runs in the first inning and tallying 9 hits in the 5 inning game.

   5 Lakers were named All District for the 2012 season as voted on by their teammates. All District selections were as follows: Blake Aaron, Jalen Bennett, Hunter Best, Tyler Robertson, and Garrett Stephens. Congratulations to the players selected All District and the entire 2012 16th District Champion Russell County Laker Baseball team.

     The Lakers have now qualified to play in the 4th Region Tournament  Nick Denes Field on the campus of WKU. The tournament draw is Saturday Morning in Bowling Green. Stay tuned to mightylakerbaseball.com for announcement of Lakers opening round opponent in next weeks 4th Region Tournament.
