Russell County Lakers Varsity defeats Fairdale 5-2

Alex Turner went 2-3 as Russell County Lakers Varsity took home a 5-2 victory over Fairdale in seven innings at Butler High on Saturday.

Russell County Lakers Varsity relied on Ben Bertram to eat up innings en route to the win. Ben Bertram pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed one earned run, four hits and two walks while striking out four.

Sanford was charged with the loss. He lasted just 5 1/3 innings, walked three, struck out three, and allowed five runs.

Russell County Lakers Varsity never trailed after scoring one run in the first on a fielder's choice.

Russell County Lakers Varsity pushed across one run in both the third inning and the fifth. In the third, Russell County Lakers Varsity scored on a fielder's choice, plating Alex.

After pushing across one run in the bottom of the fourth, Fairdale faced just a 2-1 deficit. A groundout by Garcia set off Fairdale rally. Finally, Ben Bertram induced an inning-ending fly out from Masterson.

Russell County Lakers Varsity added two more runs in the top of the sixth. Brennan Coffey kicked things off with a single, bringing home Ben Bertram. That was followed up by Alex's single, plating Grant Best.

One run in the bottom of the seventh helped Fairdale close its deficit to 5-2. An RBI double by Cullie gave Fairdale life.
