1992:� The Vermillion Red Sox first trip to the State Class "B" Amateur State Championship game.� The Red Sox were defeated in the State Championship Game (STATE RUNNER-UP - 2ND PLACE)

2003: The Vermillion Red Sox won their first Class "B" Amateur State Championship by defeating the Freeman Blacksox 10-0. Jay Berkanpas was named MVP of the Tournament for his outstanding pitching performance in the tournament.� (1ST STATE CHAMPIONSHIP - CLASS B)

2004: The Vermillion Red Sox repeated as Class B State Champions by defeating the Redfield Dairy Queen 7-3. Robin Chute was named MVP. Colby Lessmann, Robin Chute and Justin Berg were named to the All-Tournament team. (2ND STATE CHAMPIONSHIP - CLASS B)

2005: The Vermillion Red Sox moved to Class "A", which became a wooden bat league in 2005.

2006: The Vermillion Red Sox won their first Class A State Championship by defeating the Renner Monarchs 9-8. Pick-up player Randy Thyeigsen (Yankton Terry's) was named MVP of the Tournament for his relief performances for the Red Sox. Randy Thygeson, Chris Losett, Jon Merrigan, Colby Lessmann, and Robin Chute were named to the All-Tournament team.� (3RD STATE CHAMPIONSHIP - CLASS A)

2007: The Vermillion Red Sox were eliminated in the second round of the Class A State Tournament by the Renner Roadrunners (7-5). The Red Sox had lost their first game to the Rapid City Angels (8-7).

2008: The Vermillion Red Sox were eliminated in the second round of the Class A State Tournament by the Renner Roadrunners. The Red Sox lost their first game to the Renner Roadrunners, won their second game against the Brookings Cubbies, and won their third game against the Pierre Rattlers.

2009: The Vermillion Red Sox were eliminated in the third game of their District Playoffs. The Red Sox were defeated by Brandon Valley in their first game, defeated the Mitchell Mad Dogs 9-1 in their second game, and then were defeated by Brandon Valley in the final elimination game 5-1. This was only the second time in Red Sox history that they did not qualify for the South Dakota Amateur State Tournament. The first time was in 2005, the first year that the Red Sox moved to Class A and Class A converted to wooden bats.

2010: The Vermillion Red Sox finished 4th in the State Tournamnet. The Red Sox defeated the Rapid City Angels 1-0 in the first round of the State A Tournament in Yankton, South Dakota. In their second game, the Red Sox were defeated 3-2 by Brookings, South Dakota. The Red Sox played the Pierre Rattlers in the second round in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In that game, the Red Sox defeated Pierre 6-2, but were then eliminated from the tournament by Brandon Valley in game 4 with a score of 13-2.

2011: The Vermillion Red Sox qualified for the South Dakota Class A Amateur State Tournament. In the first round in Pierre, South Dakota, the Red Sox were defeated in Game 1 by the Renner Monarchs 8-1. The Red Sox defeated the Rapid City A's in Game 2 in Pierre, SD 11-6. The Red Sox were defeated by Castlewood in Game 3/Round 2 in Mitchell, SD 6-5, and were eliminated from the State Tournament.

2012: The Vermillion Red Sox qualified for the South Dakota Class A Amateur State Tournament. In the first round in Yankton, South Dakota, the Red Sox defeated Rapid City in Game 1 with a score of 13-4. The Red Sox were defeated in Game 2 by Brandon Valley 11-0. The Red Sox defeated Sioux Falls in Game 3 in Mitchell, SD with a score of 4-0. The Red Sox defeated Castlewood in Game 4 in Mitchell, SD with a score of 11-0. The Red Sox were defeated in Game 5 in Mitchell, SD by Brandon Valley with a score of 15-5. The Red Sox finished in 3rd Place.

2013:� The Vermillion Red Sox qualified for the South Dakota Class A Amateur Statement Tournament.� In the first round in Rapid City, South Dakota, the Red Sox defeated Redfield, SD 11-8, and qualified for the 2nd round of the tournament.� The Red Sox lost their 2nd game to the Renner Monarchs 11-1.� In the 2nd round of the State A Tournament in Sioux Falls, SD, the Red Sox lost the opening game to Pierre, SD 3-1.�

2014:� The Vermillion Red Sox tied for Sioux Empire League Champions with the Renner Monarchs and the Sioux Falls Brewers.� The Vermillion Red Sox were the Regional Champions, defeating both Pierre and Yankton in the Regional Tournament.� In Round 1 of the Class A State Tournament, the Vermillion Red Sox defeated the Sioux Falls Saints 9-3 and Castlewood 4-3.� In Round 2 of the Class A State Tournament, the Vermillion Red Sox defeated the Sioux Falls Brewers 3-1 to advance to the State Championship.� In the Championship game, the Vermillion Red Sox were defeated by the Renner Monarchs 12-3.� (2ND STATE RUNNER UP - 2ND PLACE)

2015: After many years of playing South Dakota Amateur Baseball, the Vermillion Red Sox team folded in 2015 and no longer fielded a team for the 2015 season.

2016: The Vermillion Red Sox returned to amateur baseball in South Dakota in 2016, making the First Round of the Class A State Tournament in Aberdeen, SD. The Red Sox were eliminated in the First Round, having been defeated by Aberdeen 8-2 in game 1 and Castlewood 3-2 in game 2.

2019: After many years of playing South Dakota Amateur Baseball, the Vermillion Red Sox team permanently folded in 2019.


************************HISTORY************************************

The Vermillion Red Sox are managed by Kirk Sorensen who has been a member of the Red Sox since 1970. The Vermillion Red Sox play their home games at Prentis Park, which was established in 1923. Prentis Park is located at 109 Prentis Avenue, Vermillion, South Dakota. The baseball field has undergone substantial modifications since 1996, which included the installation of a new outfield fence, new backstop, new lighting, and in 2005, a new grandstand and pressbox/concession stand. In 2006, Prentis Park received new dugouts and a new scoreboard. In 2008, the granstand received a new coat of paint and there will be a new batting cage.

Prentis Park is the home of the Vermillion Red Sox (Amateur - Class A), Vermillion Grey Sox (Amateur � Class B), the Vermillion Legion Team, the Vermillion Teeners, and the former home of both the Vermillion White Sox (amateur) and the University of South Dakota baseball team.
