LANGLEY BLAZE, WHITE TRITONS, NORTH SHORE TWINS AND NORTH DELTA BLUE JAYS TOUGH COMPETITION  FOR A YOUNGER CREW OF BASEBALL PLAYERS

The St. Thomas More Baseball Academy students were very competitive in all the games played in British Columbia over the weekend.  The Spring Training trip featured 2 games a day against 16 years old teams that play in the Junior Premier League in B.C.  The first night had  the academy play the Blaze and Twins in games that highlighted Logan Seifrit throwing 5 solid innings and some outstanding defensive plays under the lights at McLeod Park in Langley where last years 16th overall selection Brett Lawrie played.  The next day at South Surrey Athletic Park the Tritons won both games but in game two of the double header the academy students banged out 15 hits and scored 10 runs.  On the third day the Blue Jays played well defensively but they had trouble keeping Logan Seifrit off the base paths.  The day highlighted an offensive display from Logan that featured two doubles off the out-field wall and two homeruns including a grand slam to center field.

ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL SPRING TRAINING TRIP TO FLORIDA

The Winning Inning in Clearwater, Florida played host the St. Francis Xavier High School Baseball Academy over a 9 day period and treated the students and instructors like big league baseball players.  The days were long and the baseball was great.  The academy played 12 exhibition games in preparation for the season.  There were some challenges as far as playing conditions on the last few days and the fact that all the teams used aluminum bats versus our wood bats made it difficult.  Some highlights on the trip included  visits by David Cone, Scott Richmond, Andy Carter and Casey Janssen.  College recruiters also visited the facility to watch games and as a result Adam Beller, Jared Bymoen, Cam Leflar and Spencer Imeson will be committing to school in the next few weeks.  Note: Selected Students from the baseball academy will be playing in a showcase tournament in Kamloops this up-coming weekend at The Best of the West Tournament
