Ryan Anderson pitched well early on in the contest throwing lots of strikes and was pretty sharp for his first outing of the year in Spring Training. Ryan threw 5-1/3 innings and was very effective inducing ground balls and striking out four Cloverdale Bantam AAA batters. Markus Blair came in relief and pitched out of a jam in the 6th inning striking out both the batters he faced. In the 7th inning the first base runner reached on an error after a lead off strike out, a walk was awarded to the next batter and the game winning run was surrendered on a double that was hit in the right center gap. The defense was a little rusty in the early part of the game and some errors put the academy down 5-0 in the third inning. The offense bounced back in the fourth inning when Russell Rockwell and Reid Marcichiw started the inning with walks. The 4 runs that scored in the inning were batted in on hits from Garrett Perlette, Matthew Courneya and Nathan Wedgewood. The Baseball Academy also had a four run 6th inning that included runs being scored by Jonas Coyes, Garrett Perlette, Matthew Courneya and Ashton Martin as a pinch runner. Cole Schneider knocked in what would have been the game winning run in the top of the 7th inning on a single that scored Jonas Coyes. Game #2 was cancelled after 1 inning of play due to rain. The Baseball Academy is back on the field tomorrow with games against Burnaby (Note game times have changed with Game #1 starting at 3:00pm and game #2 starting 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game)
